**SCOUNDRALY HEADPHONE WARNINGS**

Episode 1 set up this was going to be a delicious slow burn.
Episode 2 established this was going to have some intriguing character and thematic discussions. 

Episode 3 has got me hook, line, and sinker! I'm ALL IN, now!

What a great episode, and it's just the START of this series! Thors is #dadgoals (after he named Ylva, that is), Askeladd is INTERESTING, Floki is keeping secrets, and I just want to bottle up and protect Thorfinn's beautiful smile. Not too much to ask, right?

Couple quick things Ari's VA is Ichiki Mitsuhiro, who also voiced Tashiro from Sasaki to Miyano. I don't recognize any other characters that he has performed. Björn's va is Yasumoto Hiroki who has voiced Sado from Bleach, Mycroft from Moriarty the Patriot, Kageyama from TBNF, Christophe from Yuri on Ice. As more characters are introduced I'll let you know who their VAs are if they've worked on shows you might recognize. Askeladd is very interesting and layered character, you will enjoy peeling back his layers as the show goes on.

More info...the Berserker Mushrooms. It is widely believed that some viking warrior ingested a certain type of mushroom to help them get into a trance like state to fight. These warrior became know as Berserker. Seach Berserker Mushrooms.

I think the reason why Vinland does not feel like usual anime , its cause the manga and the show itself is seinen. And while shounen targets young teenage boys up to age 18, seinen demographics are usually 20-50 year olds. And make no mistake i love my shounen anime, but seinen is a lot more rare in anime . Especially well produced , high caliber shows like vinland is rarity in this day and age . Stuff Like Berserk, Vagabond , Real and many other series are seinen. Also partially is the more understated feel , use of comedy and just less bombastic energetic nature that seinen has compared to shounen. Attack on titan straddles the line between shounen and seinen , mostly because of explicit violence and imagery. But then you also have its comedy and more silly characters . As for episode itself . One of my fav moments was how Thors was so hesitant to give a knife to Thorfin, it really pains him to do it . Mostly because Thors ideals are against violence and he was trying to instill these ideals to Thorfin from young age . When I watched Arcane last year, I remember Vander giving me flashbacks of Thors honestly. Both have near same archetype and the way they are written and how they serve the bigger narrative of their respective shows . Also Askelads VA also voices Lights dad from death note.

So the drum beating is for the rhythm. The rhythm is used so the rowers of the ship would stay in synch.

I LOVE Real so much, so I can see the Seinen appeal -- I definitely want to read Vagabond and Berserk at some point, as well! I can see how Attack on Titan straddles that line, definitely! :) And YES! Watching Thors be conflicted between giving his son a means to defend himself and it going against what he told his son prior...it's such a great, heartbreaking moment. I can SO see Vander shades with Thors (which doesn't help the red flags for him for me) And ooohhhh, that's where I've heard that voice with Askelad! Thank you for that info and the comment!

Hahah when I found out Ylva was only around 15 years old I was surprised bc I though she was like a young adult or something. Then again, I guess girls at that age back then may have been considered adults already lol.. she's pretty badass and strong, obviously taking after Thors Thors... my man... he is seriously such a lovable character. Like, he's so loving, kind, and just genuinely GOOD. but the death flags... they're so obvious and we know there's no way to avoid it omg it's just suspense and dread Also, I honestly like Askeladd as a character too... he is very interesting...

I blame it on Thors being like a GIANT -- she takes after him a little, maybe? :) I like Ylva a lot, though! Definitely takes after her dad a bit! But yeah, Thors -- death flag central, but that's the cruelest part of it all, because you see how loving and great of a character he is, and then see that the show is clearly going to kill him off...ugh.....but yeah, Askeladd has my attention! He seems like he'll be fun to break down in this! Thanks for the comment! :D
