**BIG GULP HEADPHONE WARNINGS!**

Reaction starts around 27:30! A mini-recap is before then!

When Whiteboard-kun has to come out BEFORE the episode, you know it's hit the fan! And hit the fan, we have! Marley and the Warriors thought they had Eren and his comrades cornered, but our Survey Corps is if anything prepared to come out of a tight jam when necessary!

The battle reaches an insane fever pitch, and things look bleak for our Warrior crew -- they need a "hero," and Gabi and Falco knows whose theirs is: Reiner! "Die in peace?" Oh, honey, I don't think Isayama's gonna let you do that, friend...

I forgot to tell you this last episode but I guess this one also works.. remember when I told you back in season 2 (or even 1, I can't remember anymore haha but pretty sure it was in S2) that you said SOMETHING, but I didn't want to spoil back then what it was, and that I was going to tell you several episodes in the future (now present) and you would only laugh haha.. ok, that was when you innocently believed (and said) Eren wasn't a murderer 🙃 I guess that is what we all believed in the beginning, how fool of us Isayama might think. If I'm not mistaken this ep had a perfect score when it was aired, so the headphone warnings were expected And the whole scene of nutcracker Galliard just brings me chills, it so cruel and brutal but fascinating at the same time, like is hurts my soul but I can't keep my eyes off it. So sad the last op (S4 part2) has spoilers because the song is soooooo good. My personal favorite. I actually think the spoilers are implicit, like without context its just images but you are so good at connecting everything that most likely your theories from the images will be correct haha and the ed song is also very pretty, wish you could listen to them :( anyways, good reaction as always, can't wait for the next episodes.

I will never get Gabi and Falco’s screams for Reiner out of my head. I was a sobbing mess when I first watched this and I still get emotional on rewatch every time. Their cries haunt me to this day even after a year of this airing. The VA’s put their bloody souls into that and god it’s soo disturbing and sad that these are 12 year old kids way in over their heads. I had to bite my tongue at 4x5 when you mistook the tall blonde for Armin as you were berating what you thought was my no.1 boy’s appearance. Because let me introduce you to ‘Mappa’s favourite’. It’s a running nickname in the fandom that Mappa seems to absolutely adore Armin because they animate him soo god damn well! I love his timeskip design anyway but they really make him beautiful. Speaking of Armin. My beautiful ocean eyed boy whom always longed to see the sea, has to form a plan to get Eren and the others safe, and so destroys the very thing that he was seeking. Him exploding basically caused a huge thermal explosion and not only destroyed the navy, the port but sadly also citizens surrounding it. Now because Liberio is more in the centre of this town he more than likely killed marleyans then eldians but still… I’ll comment more on this later but oh boy if Armin wasn’t already carrying a ton of guilt. I loved your discussion on Armin’s sacrificial tendencies. For me his major problem has always been his self loathing. My poor boy 🥺 This episode from top to bottom is an assault to my emotions. Very aptly titled episode. The music choices, art directions, colour choices, animation etc are all stunning. There’s a reason is one of the highest rated AOT episodes By the way loved that you talked about Jean and Pieck’s ship 😄 I personally adore these two I know you are ahead but I won’t comment on this video and save it for later but you have no idea how hard is to watch you theorise on Zeke at this point in the story! Can’t wait to get into those discussions because OH BOY THEY’LL BE A DOOZY

I feel like the main characters this season are going through trials of sacrifice, Jean, armin, and Eren had to sacrifice their morality and kill innocents to achieve their goals. Jean failed at this trail by hesitating in killing falco resulting in the cart titan being able to get away.

I just noticed something new rewatching this! We know Reiners Armour at the end isn’t formed properly, because when shifters transform, they imprint aspects of their consciousness into their form. So Reiner, being on the brink of giving up, has formed without his armour. BUT I just realised, Armins colossal Titan doesn’t have any ears. So Armin chooses, when he shifts, not to form his ears so he won’t hear the sounds of his victims 🥺🥺🥺 precious baby

Polygon

It's true that Reiner only partially transformed because he lacks the willpower, but Armin not having any ears because he doesn't want to hear people die is a completely baseless fan theory. Titan shifters can't choose how their titans look when they form. At best, it's fan headcanon.

Polygon

Reiner's Titan was missing portions of it's armor because it was only a partial transformation. As we know, transforming takes drive and willpower (something that Reiner is unfortunately short on at the moment) but he managed to dig deep for the sake of the kids and in order to save Galliard. It's a neat visual metaphor for who Reiner is beneath the armor and how Reiner is regaining his humanity while Eren is depicted to be increasingly monstrous. Reiner ran when the Jaw Titan was eaten in the past but this time, he's chosen to fight and protect it and even more poetically, Porco Galliard just so happens to be the brother of the previous holder he abandoned.

Polygon

Also, when Zeke says "Eren Jeager is not my enemy", the connotation of what he says in Japanese is a bit different than the English translation. He says "Eren Jeager wa ore no teki ja nai" which literally translates to "Eren Jeager is not my enemy." However, in Japanese, the connotation based on context can also mean that Eren isn't his enemy because he's nowhere near strong enough to threaten him/he's not on his level. That's why there are confused looks from the other warriors right after he says that because they’re not sure how to interpret his words.

Many people misstake it for Armin in that episode, i flirted with the idea myself when i watched it for the first time, but the height and the voice made me abandon it quickly. Time-skip and new studio, i think it can be forgiven 😊.

romaniablack

YES! There's so much sacrifice in this season so far -- and it's FASCINATING how much Jean has had happened to him in terms of hesitation and its consequences -- more on that in the next episode reaction! ;) Thanks for commenting!!

romaniablack

Hahahaha, oh, Eren, what a naive person I was, right? I'm glad you brought that back up; we were such summer children. :) I can see why this episode got a perfect score -- there was a LOT to take in! I honestly felt bad for Porco in the "Nutcracker" scene -- the horror of killing your own brethren against your will....yup, nightmare fuel. I'll definitely touch base with everyone about the OP for s4 p2 later in a few weeks, but I appreciate the heads up! :) I'm sooooo excited to talk about these next few episodes where I'm at; thanks for the kind words and comment!

Nyjae

This episode is an assault for sure, Armin comin in as a whole nuke. Omg him saying are these the things you saw Bertholdt😭Levi slicing up Zeke. Eren eating the War Hammer Titan, him & Mikasa messin up Galliard. Jean & Sasha blasting Pieck & her crew. Incoming Hange🙌🏽 Ending with Reiner joining the battle. I honestly think its it's a good thing Eren told Falco to stay when he was talking to Reiner because like you said Reiner saved Falco & protects him but at this point he doesn't want to live anymore. I wonder if Falco wasn't there in the room would Reiner let Eren kill him as he transformed😭Not even bother to change because he feels like he needs to pay for everything he's done to be at "peace" Omg why do I do this to myself lol

romaniablack

Oohhhh, VERY INTERESTING! Thank you so much for the clarification with that translation; it's something that was bothering me in this episode, and that makes so much more sense!

romaniablack

Ooohhh, I hadn't thought about Reiner running after Marcel's death vs. Reiner staying to save Porco, but that's a great point -- and the comparison of Reiner regaining humanity and Eren looking more monstrous? @.@ Curious....thank you for the comments!!

romaniablack

This episode was insanity! The battles in this season have been some of my favorites so far -- and yeah, in hindsight, it was good Falco heard those words, but I'm glad Reiner was there to protect him! And yes, if Falco hadn't been there...lots of "what if's" in this season, eh??

Nathan Hardy

Eren now has the most awesome OnlyFans subscriptions of two women of Eldian nobility, Queen Frieda Reiss but also Lady Lara Tybur. All intimate moments, full access, uncut, no extra $$$ needed. What would they call it in the AOT universe, "OnlyPaths"? 🤔 As much as he's a total liability (most recently, getting Lara killed) whose ego writes checks his body/abilities can't cash, I have to respect Porco's determination to get the absolute shit kicked out of him at every possible opportunity. In another life, I'm sure him and Eren would have gotten along great with them both having that insane level of drive, for them, life is basically one long bayonet charge forward. Plus they would bond over their mutual past time of tormenting Reiner 😛

romaniablack

Ha! I'm going to talk about Porco in a future reaction, but treating life as one long "bayonet charge forward" -- I hadn't thought about that, but that seems to be Eren's mentality right now, eh? I did feel bad for Porco in this episode -- all of his limbs ripped off and forced to smash Lara Tybur...he wanted to take the glory of stealing the Founding Titan, and instead, he just made him stronger. @_@

Toni simi

Sakura Ayame's voice acting when Gabi screamed for Reiner brings tears to my eyes. It's so heartbreaking. I love the parallel with Jean from season 3 where he hesitated because he didn't wanted to kill the person and now he does it but you can clearly see he wishes he didn't have to. Galliards impatients this episode really reminded me of Eren in the first season. As much as I doesn't want Galliard to die, Eren could have just eaten him and not stopped when Reiner transformed. He definitely had enough time for that. I never realized how many times Armin wanted to sacrifice himself. Wish you a wonderful day!!

romaniablack

Yesss, Gabi and Falco screaming was heartbreaking! :( Jean seems to me very much in the same camp as Mikasa now, that she was back in Season 3 -- not wanting to go through with killing another human, but realizing he has to to save his friends. :( And you're so right about Galliard! Him jumping into the fray at the end wa a lot like Eren jumping in after Thomas died in Season 1 -- and Eren had his legs slashed like Galliard did! @.@ Oh wow... And yessss, I find it VERY interesting in this episode and the next that Eren could have killed (I think) both Galliard and Reiner...but did not. Hm. Thank you for the kind words and comment! :D Have a great day, too!
