I had forgotten (somehow) about the moment that WuXian gets caught up in Mingjue's resentful energy and via empathy sees Yao's backstory with him! Yao's voice actor is SO good in the audio drama and it's so sad yet intriguing to see his past with XiChen and Mingjue!

We look solely and Chapter 48 and the "Washing Clothes" extra in this part's discussion, but there's still a lot to talk about!

Thank you for watching with me and for all the support!

Anastasia -

I always wondered who does menial jobs in Gusu Lan, them being highly monastic clan by definition... guess they're not really that, and servants are still a thing. Also we can imagine some young disciples learning to do that for themselves as a chore or as a punishment? Or probably just for their own convenience, but only after the war ended. I mean, when at war, "night-hunt for a couple of days, then return home" approach stopped working and everyone had to cook, wash clothes and fend for themselves sometimes, and those who returned could change the teaching principles for youngsters after that.

Yeah, it's interesting to see how the roles and dynamics within the clans were during the Sunshot campaign and how they are somewhat altered for the present timeline. I think of Yi City with WWX making the young disciples the porridge. Hm. It's a really good point to bring up! :)

I really like the parallel between Yao, Yang and Wuxian. As you said, all being orphans (I'm sorry but Daddy Jin is dead in my eyes lol), they have very much different life trajectories largely because they were treated differently in childhood. And I like your point about the father figure and comparison between FengMian and Daddy Jin in this. It makes so much sense! And the comparison between Madame Yu and Madame Jin is just brilliant too. I feel like Yao kind of believes that the end will always justify the means. Well he did "worked" hard to make everyone speechless in the end. He became the chief cultivator. His intentions can be good, especially for the civilians, but he won't hesitate to use shady methods to achieve his goals. His interaction with the little baby is just golden. It makes me wonder how he raised baby Ling, because apparently he cares about Ling and Yao knows how bad it could be for a kid to lose his both parents. And the little detail about the pearl button in the novel is heart-wrenching too. I'm sad that it was not adapted in the donghua. I feel like it's these tiny details about Yao in the novel that make him a more empathetic character. I love your reaction so much and can't wait for the next week with a long reaction!

Daddy Jin SHOULD be dead in many eyes; he's probably my least favorite character in MDZS. So many parallels, though! MXTX knows what she's doing! Yeah, the pearl button scene would have been a GREAT addition to the donghua! The novel really expands on Yao's character and I greatly appreciate it! He clearly cares, like for the baby and Ling, but like you said, he's not afraid to use shady methods to get what he wants, and that becomes....problematic, especially in the eyes of certain characters. I like that he's not painted as an outright EVIL VILLAIN, but is rather a very sympathetic person who just had good intentions, but were going about them the wrong way -- the best type of antagonist! Thanks for the kind words and comment! Yessss, I just finished next week's discussion and that chapter was GOOD! :)
