You all know I have a soft spot for "Baby Ling" in this series...and in this episode we ACTUALLY see baby Ling! But man...at what emotional cost?!

This episode paused slightly on the mysterious present and took a dip into the past, but the threads of everything with WuXian's history as the Yiling Patriarch, his downfall, and Yanli's fate are slowly tying together...and I'm not sure I'm ready for what's to come.

Oh, and Cheng's back. @_@ Where's our Wangji when we need him?!

Thanks for watching and for the support!

The scenes with baby Jin Ling were dreams, his worst memories. And Wei Ying entered those dreams when he was removing the curse mark. Also, be prepared for tears~ (this episode was sad because of Jin Ling, the next episode... Well, you'll see~~)

I wondered if it was just WuXian entering his dreams and not "actually" being there -- I'll have to bring that up with the next reaction...I have NOT watched Episode 5 yet...so....*nervous laugh* Good to knowwwwwww!

WuXian Suibian

Questions upon questions... Who's sword was in the coffin? Who was powerful enough to have their sword sealed in a coffin? Why does Wei Wuxian not carry his sword? Is it just because he can now use the demonic arts? Who killed Yanli and Zixuan? What were Zixuan's last words? What the heck is Nie Huaisang up to? Poor Jin ling is in the middle of all this and you have WWX trying to protect his nephew, while also trying to stay away from Fairy. The "dreams" were hallucinations mixed with memories for both Jin Ling and WWX. Remember WWX said that the curse causes the victim to hallucinate their inner demons. Of course WWX would have some strong inner demons considering his past. If you listen closely to WWX's VA you can hear a very different voice used when WWX is older (aka the Yiling Patriarch) - mature, brooding, etc.

Jiang Yanli's death was indeed almost right after Jin Ling's birth. Wuxian was just trying to intrude Jin Ling's hallucinations in order to ease the pain and successfully relocate the curse mark on his own body. They have never met before Wuxian's ressurection, so the whole talk kinda happened in their heads, though Jin Ling would not remember it. In both novel and live-action drama the hunting arc is much more bigger and somewhat eventful: there was a big shift in wangxian and Zixuan/Yanli's relationships, lots of political stuff between Big Four clans (because the timeline of this arc takes place after the Sunshot Campaign, as you have already noticed). Unfortunately, the donghua cut out the majority of it, but, luckily, you'll get to know the other adaptations and either way will learn more of it. Also, the whole scene with the soup in a flashback was a big misunderstanding. Zixuan is in fact a peacock, but deep down inside he is a good person, so I'm glad the show didn't leave us hanging with that constant scenes of him, behaving like a complete prick. Though, considering that we're watching the story from Wuxian's POV, I'm not surprised the viewers perceive Zixuan as a jerk. Thank you for reaction!

SO. MANY. QUESTIONS. I am writing them all down so I can keep track for the next episode's discussion, hahaha! And POOR BABY LING! I wondered if it was a flashback or a mix of hallucinations, because I thought the timeline was that Ling's parents were killed when he was a baby...good to know! And YEAH, I'm sure that WuXian's inner demons are PRETTY scary....hmmm..I will have to re-watch to hear that voice difference, but that's an awesome point to make! ^^

Okay, that makes me feel better -- I was starting to doubt my understanding of the timeline, but it makes sense that WuXian is hallucinating with Ling, too and memories are mixing! That's so sad that they've never "actually" met while WuXian was still alive. T_T I am REALLY excited to get into the novel and audio drama! That's going to be a lot of fun to read/listen to and talk about! Ahhh...so exciting! And Zixuan being a peacock makes SO MUCH sense, especially given who his father is! Yeah a lot of what we get is in WuXian's POV, so of course, we only get to see a certain side of Zixuan...that makes a lot of sense! Thank you for the kind words and the comment!

Main question: what were WangXian doing together in the bushes while XuanLi tried to communicate XD The answer, of course, can be found in the novel. Also, my FAVOURITE scene with Yanli. Fandom sometimes tends to see her as cardboard flat character who makes soup and falls in love and dies. This moment, this scene is the most powerful in showing us just how strong and willing to fight she really was. And then baby Jin Ling, so naive and unriddled by prejudices in his hallucinations, is opening a new road for Wei Ying to get close to family! I personally think Wei Ying's readiness to sacrifice himself for Jin Ling was a final straw for Jiang Cheng to recognize him, as well. A little tidbit to look into JC soul as well. It's not all hatred he feels, of course...

Fun fact: The bird Huaisang has is a Common Hill Myna and is one of the best among Asian birds at copying human voices, I looked up a couple videos of them and was blown away!

romaniablack

Ooooh, that is so cool! I'm definitely going to look up videos on one "talking" tonight! ^^

Oooooh, y'all have NO IDEA how excited I am for the audio drama CD and the novelllllllll! :3 I have always thought Yanli was really sweet and kind-hearted -- I've never thought she was a "cardboard character" -- I love how supportive she was of both Cheng and WuXian...her death is going to be so sad, I feel. T_T And I didn't even think of that! That makes soooo much sense, because why would Mo Xuanyu care about Ling? But WuXian WOULD. Ooooooooohhhhh snap....ahhh....I know that Cheng isn't consumed only by hatred, but he IS his momma's son...and that has me worried about some snap decisions he might make. **nervous laugh**

“No it’s not his fault!” If that doesn’t sum up MDZS as a whole, idk what does. Interesting that Zixuan seems to only start developing feelings for Yanli after she sticks up for her brother and clan. I guess he just wasn’t attracted to docile and frail looking women. That or he’s been waiting to find someone who can dominate him like the masochist he is. Idk it’s all speculation...

romaniablack

Right?! Talk about bad timing...and YES! The whole Jin clan may have a masochistic thing going...I mean, Mo Xuanyu literally sacrificed his body to bring WuXian back...hmmmm....all speculation, but still... ^^
