NEW REACTION LINK: https://www.breach.tv/video/13658/slam-dunk-volume-21-reaction

Oh. My. Word.

The conclusion to the Ryonan vs. Shohoku game to determine who goes to Nationals is HERE. And it is JUST. SO. SATISFYING!

Kogure has been one of my favorite characters since Day One, and especially since Volume 7 & 8...and now. He gets to shine alongside his fellow Shohoku boys. And that final play by Sakuragi? And Akagi's tears? AND Adventures with Maki and Kyota?!

This volume was incredible and one of my favorites in the series so far!  I hope you enjoy the reaction and thank you for the support!

The last two chapters was the start of why I fell in love with this manga, the Inter-Highs are going to be amazing. The world building is just great, I still get chills when Maki asks Sakuragi if he wants to go see Aichi's Star. Keep going you wont regret it!

RIGHT?! I have really liked this manga, especially since way back when we got Mitsui's backstory in Volume 8, but man. The end of this volume when Sakuragi goes with Maki and Kyota?! It was so unexpected but I loved it so much, and it's setting up SOOO much stuff. I honestly cannot WAIT to delve into the Inter-High matches! :D Thanks for the comment and kind words! I'm so excited!!

Well, well, well. Preliminaries are finally over. The fated rivalry settled. Last volume's iffy translation... I mean, all of the translation on these scans are like that to me)) Too much I could correct, to the point of redoing it completely. Anyway. Before this volume, wanna point out a thing from previous one. Remember me commenting that "humble" and "Rukawa" in same sentence is kinda new? I had that panel of Rukawa saying "hey" and pointing to the scoreboard in mind))) You really got to see that side of him. This volume though, the very first chapter with Mitsui... That panel of him saying "why did I waste all time" hits hard. Now that I'm much older. The regrets of not doing something in the past catching up... Powerful moment. Highlights one of the themes Inoue loves to have. Regrets. Everyone has them to some degree. Things they regret about the past or present. Incidentally, I recently got into sort of an argument on internet with what seems to be a young kid about Haikyu. I said Haikyu is a very bright sports story, and opponent bit back saying "did you even read it? Bright? lol, they talk about hardships, perseverance, saying good bye to friends after high school", andd all those things I do consider to be bright. It's constantly about the future. Young kids moving forward and becoming better. Compare to Mitsui here. There is no "future" where he can avoid injury or stay on basketball team for two years. It's done. It's in the past, and he can do absolutely nothing to change it. All he can do is feel regret as in the most important game for the team he's physically unable to play. And saying goodbye to friends after graduating? That's just a new start. Not a big deal at all. Though it might seem as a big deal for a high school student. Because they haven't lived long enough to know how things work in life. When one has barely 6~8 years of memories and everything they face is for the first time, small things will seem like end of the world. Once you're older you'll be able to say "whatever, we just meet again in like 10 years and catch up, not a big deal at all". So anyway, we're on to inter high. More character development, more awesome games, pinnacle of Inoue basketball writing awaits. It's a shame animated adaptation stopped right here. For several reasons. I'll go over them once you finish the manga because it's closely tied to how it ends. Imagine anime only being cut off here)) Of course it'll feel anticlimactic. For animated bits you could check, I got a YouTube vid ready. It's 3 minutes long, titled Mitsui vs Jin, just a compilation of the two. The song creator chose fits very well in my opinion. Interested in link?

Oh my gosh, thank you for all the awesome points in this comment! First, though...I have to say... THE ANIME STOPS AT THIS GAME?! But it's only 2/3 of the way through! WOW...that is really disappointing in a way, because I've already read Volume 22 for next week and there's already so much I wanted to see animated. T_T That is really sad...hmmm...well, I may have to do a "Soapbox" video about that when I finish this series! ^^ Anyway, yes, we do get to see as this match goes on, the more "bratty" side of Rukawa, which I like! It's good to know he's not a total robot and has human emotions/limitations. Speaking of which, Mitsui's regrets and that line...that nearly got me crying again! Mitsui is a character in this series that just cuts to my core. And yes, I'd love a link to the Mitsui vs Jin video! Are you in our discord? I'll definitely share it there, too. :) That's funny about getting into an argument about Haikyuu!! Honestly, after reading what I have from this manga (and finishing Haikyuu), I can definitely say that while Furudate appropriates a lot from Slam Dunk in my opinion, the two series are very different...however, I will agree that Haikyuu is overall a VERY positive/bright series. It has its heart-wrenching moments, but Furudate creates such a positive "feel good" environment in Haikyuu, that it doesn't have quite the grimness that Slam Dunk has had, especially when we got the flashback of Sakuragi and his own father, as well as with Mitsui's backstory, etc. Ahhh, I love both of these series for their own reasons. Why do we have to fight? Hahaha!! ^^ In any case, I am SO excited to dive into Inter-highs; that is a shame that the anime cut off here, but there's still a lot of animated moments I want to eventually watch when I finish the series. :) Thank you for the comment!!
