This definitely felt like it COULD conclude the series, but at the same time opened SO many doors for possibilities with where the show could go! And I'm SO glad I still have a movie left to go! I'm not ready to end this show!

This finale had everything I could want while STILL leaving mystery and plot to be hopefully addressed in the "Providence" movie -- I cannot WAIT to find out!

Loved the reaction & discussion! We’ve reached the official end of S3 with First Inspector! 🥳😭 Regarding production: From interviews with the primary director for the whole series (Naoyoshi Shiotani), he has mentioned using Sinners of the System as a kind of “process reset” and tech-demo for what they wanted future Psycho-Pass to be (in terms of technology used, production logistics, etc, etc), along with telling the additional stories they’d wanted to work on. I feel that may have been quite ambitious (an entire season looking like SS?) and we definitely see evidence of them struggling with this in some parts of S3. While they have not gone into specific details of any production issues, they did announce S3 back in 2019 as an 8-episode season and I don’t recall seeing any news of it initially being 11 and then being delayed or split. First Inspector was released as a movie in Japan at the very end of March 2020 and a few weeks later generally released as a 3-part series for streaming. The casefile Sinners of the System mini art-book I included in my parcel is actually from the SS limited edition Blu-ray set – it features short interviews with the primary creative team about each film. I think it provides a really good insight into how the Psycho-Pass team works and how collaborative their creative process is. FI: I really felt for you at the beginning of First Inspector – and the frustration of knowing how much would need to be resolved (plot threads, character threads (for old and new), the Entire Sibyl Situation?!, etc) and how could it be in 3 eps, especially with its pacing? I had the privilege of knowing FI wasn’t the end when I first watched – even though this was a spoiler in a sense, so I had a lot of fun with its start as an evolving “bottle episode.” I love how FI wrapped up in (to me) classic Psycho-Pass fashion – things resolved, things set up, characters set on new trajectories and getting us so excited for more! Azusawa & Obata: Azusawa is definitely one of my favourite PP antagonists – I feel similarly. Calculating, manipulative, fun-having baddies devolving into hysterics? Bathe me in their despairing tears. 🤣 The fight with Arata was wonderful – I think there are only 2 fights I really care about in S3+FI: the delightful layers of Kogami & Gino reappearing and Arata & Kei taking them on early on in S3, and then this one. The desperation of Arata trying to believe in some semblance of justice from Sibyl, not wanting to kill or be forced to kill; the desperation of Azusawa being rejected by the representation of his self-image – also fighting the person who was accepted AND in front of whom he was rejected! Delicious! 🥰 I love the Obata/Azusawa dynamic – the way they take turns being the gremlin in any given situation, they’re a lot of fun to watch. And they definitely care about one another. KuniKara 🥰: Shion & Yayoi are probably the most important representation of a female couple in anime (to me personally) – if anyone else has any other examples of 2x non-infantilised adult female characters getting the same treatment from their show? Literally, please let me know – I am desperate for it! And I mean the full set of requirements: in design, in mannerisms, in demeanour, in attitude, no internalised homophobia, two adult women who know and understand themselves - not “side plot,” just reality. I also want to reiterate that all the latent criminal “employees” – they literally cannot leave the PSB without authorisation, supervision and a legitimate reason (so mostly work-related or, I guess, pray your assigned inspector is not a Sibyl-fucker). So, Shion getting to go for a walk AND with her beloved – I cannot overstate how beautiful this was to see, even just by itself. But then knowing they get to be together? To be honest, I forgive all – because Psycho-Pass has given me KuniKara. 🥰 Hinakawa: getting a tiny moment of making the remaining trio of enforcers to behave? S2 Hinakawa would not have even uttered a sound! Our precious bean continues to grow. 🥰 Your Shinkane journey continues to be a delight, love the scene of Akane’s release. The rest of the MOFA squad – love how much of them we got in FI. I need much more though. Kagari mention also noted 🧡 – I am saving some thoughts regarding this for post-Providence (along with some other topics). I apologise in advance... 😆 My final thing for now – getting that Gino and Arata conversation! 🥰 When you’d mentioned it in S3, I got so excited knowing what was coming. Cannot wait for next week! 🧡 Onwards and upwards 🧡

Yessss! We made it! I can’t believe we’re here! Oooohhhhhhhh so First Inspector was a MOVIE first and then the streaming service split it into three episodes - that makes much more sense! It definitely makes sense if it finished production and came out in 2020 with the animation issues - covid was a rough time for animation, so I can see how that affected things. Thank you for that introspection, though! I was happy with how First Inspector wrapped up - even without Providence you could have this as a stand alone ending but yeah, going in, I was so curious how it could wrap pu and I’m glad that the series “technically” (you know…just saying…) could end up having more to it if they “wanted” to create another season! “Bathe me in their despairing tears!” Ahahaha! I love that with Obata and Azusawa – they were a really fun pair and I enjoyed their banter a lot, I agree! And Azusawa did seem to care about Obata and she turns out to be a secret tsundere? I live! Azusawa vs. Arata was SO engaging! Yes, because Arata doesn’t want to kill him and wants there to be justice outside of Sybil - and Asuzawa coming into his tragic villain final form and all the layers with rejection and acceptance right THERE – delicious, indeed! And NO DOOMED YURI – very excited and happy for the two of them! I was so pleased! I love what they represent and I can’t wait to gush in the livestream about it! But yeah, they are just SUCH a well rounded romantic couple - regardless of any other factors – I’m so happy they get a “happy ending,” especially with Shion freed from the PSB. But YES, them getting a happy ending — I still mourn Kagari, but I’m sure he’d be happy for them, too! Speaking of auburn/red heads, I’m so proud of Hinakawa as well! I cannot wait for all the commentary with Providence, but yes, the ShinKane goodness did NOT LET DOWN - I agree, I could have had more of our MOFA Hounds, but the moments with Akane and Kogami at the end just melted my heart on a cold winter’s day – I could gush for hours about them! AND YES, GINOZA AND ARATA – the show KNEW what it was doing and I’m so elated for it! That conversation and Ginoza’s “dad wave” wrecked my soul in the best way! But yes, next weeeeeeek - SO ready!
