I'm here for all the analysis! Love the matchmaking, even if Frieren doesn't deliver the goods the way others you might also not expect, like Berserk surprisingly do deliver.

For all these people trying to come of as bloodthirsty killers no one died this episode, although that has probably more to do with the less bloodthirsty ones being the ones to win all the fights we had. If some of these fights had swung the other way the body count would probably been different (and there is always next episode). A guy that is cooky and seemingly a bad boy but with a heart of gold? never seen that before, 😜 but him falling in love with a girl at age 5, promising to kill all demons, not longer remembering her name or face but still killing demons? that is the kind of character i want in my "Sousou no Frieren". I'm not sure those children came back from battle, the way Wirbel put on his helmet, and having talked about killing women and children with Übel, it looked more like the start of a battle to me. Hmm, so how nefarious is this 1st class mage thing? As one of them said, this test mostly comes down to luck... unless you are unscrupulous and a killer. So it seems more like a test to distill down to some of the worst people, and someone (was it Richter?) called the 1st class mages monsters. All this started by some mysterious elf, one Frieren seems to know about, who gives out everyone's single most desired spell? Well i'm sure this is all above board, nothing to see here. Denken also made me think of Erwin but for a completly different reason, doesn't one of the robed figures in Denken's flashback look very muck like Erwin? Maybe Erwin learnt all his machiavellian skills from Denken?

Thank you for the comment and kind words! I do like Berserk and Frieren both for similar but different reasons, but Frieren having strong, well-written female characters is definitely something I appreciate a great deal!

There’s been supposedly some deaths off screen, but I might be getting ahead of myself; I do appreciate in this series that lives have “weight,” and while people may talk a big game, at the end of the day, taking a life is a VERY serious decision, and I appreciate the show clarifies that, here. It’s a nice subversion from other Shonen where people are just randomly killed and it holds no weight or consequence to the characters and their moral compasses. *sips tea* I do like the flip we get with Wirbel; I would say he’s an archetype no matter what way you spun his character - we’ve seen all the “battle types” before, right? But I do like the idea that he’s not really fighting for that specific person anymore but rather the concept. And a secret softie, I can never turn down in a story. I thought that the kids looked a bit disheveled and battle worn as they were coming back, and it was a swap out? But who knows. Yeah, the system is intriguing to me…I’m curious what we will find out as the story goes on about this exam and those that qualify for it. Also, with Denken, ONE OF THOSE ROBED FIGURES SO LOOKS LIKE ERWIN! YES! Hahaha, I’m glad I’m not the only one that noticed that! I wasn’t sure if calling out AOT look-a-likes worked here, so I’m glad someone else saw as well! Thank you for the comment and kind words!
