Right so I’ve managed to get another major update out. I’m going to take a very brief break and then I’m going to be primarily working on some improved bug tools. Specifically I want to add a few key commands into the bug system in the game and fix up a few of the bigger bugs.

I also want to talk about bugs more broadly very quickly. I don’t take feedback poorly and I totally get people's frustration with bugs. For what it’s worth I test the latest content to make sure it can be at least finished before release.

But, I’m just one developer and don’t have a lot of time to test everything. My quality assurance is basically all of you playing and testing for me. But most importantly I need a basic level of information before I can fix anything really.

Typically I need to know at least 3 things

- Exactly what happened
- Where were you and what were you doing when it happened
- Where are you in the story/game progress
- The logs from your game with error information. (optionally for more serious bugs)

I do sometimes see complaints about bugs or about bugs that I have no bug reports on. The less detail I have about the bug the lower priority it is. Additionally I don’t get a lot of feedback when a bug is fixed so sometimes I just assume something is fixed if people stop talking about it.

So what is the best way to give feedback? I have a whole post on how to submit bugs. It details the bug email account and ways to access logs. (Also a great spot for more general feedback too).

I don’t mind comments under posts still and they work great for small things. But for bigger or more complex stuff an email will reduce spam. Also the more detail you can give the better.

Two kinds of bug reports that I can’t do anything with are super general or just a pile of jumbled words. I do get a number of reports that read like.

“Go to level then person before blue screen then it crash. Can you fix or no”

I totally understand if your English isn’t super strong. But it’s best to send me your bug in your language of choice and add your best translation. Online translators will often give me a couple different options, combined with your translation can help.

It should also go without saying but threats and angry emails are also a waste of time for both of us. Thankfully that has been super rare and I would say that the vibe here has been great!

That’s all for now I’m going to look at adding in a few more better bug catches along with some more console commands and special bug buttons and features!
