More info about Scoobtober audio commentary tracks (Patreon)
Content
Hey, gang. I've gotten a good amount of questions about the commentary tracks, so I want to address the three most frequent ones real quick!
Why are they just audio and not video?
For a couple reasons. Firstly, as I stated in the previous post, we obviously don't have the rights to the Scoob episodes, so we can't just upload them to the internet for people to download. That would put us in some legal trouble.
But why not just videos of Em and myself instead of just our audio? Tbh, I didn't realize this would be a thing people would want. I think of commentary tracks as inherently audio-only. The idea is that you watch the episode together, not watch us watching the episode. To me it just seems more cumbersome to setup multiple screens to watch through these commentaries. Maybe I'm wrong.
Either way, we have only recorded audio and it's too late to go back and get video. If it's a think everyone is genuinely wanting, I'll keep that in mind for future commentary tracks. I just feel like audio is the easiest for people to listen to and for us to distribute right now. Which brings us to the bigger question...
How will they be distributed?
As of right now, it seems the easiest way to distribute the audio commentary tracks is via the NerdSync Patreon's RSS feed on or around the 30th-31st of this month. You can access the RSS feed right now when you go to your "My Membership" section of the NerdSync Patreon Page. It's the same RSS feed I use for all past audio updates, so it will already be populated with stuff. Just ignore those for now, haha.
Will I still be able to listen to them if I stop supporting you on Patreon?
UPDATE: I just learned that according to Patreon, "The RSS feed has the user's info built in so that a registered patron with an active pledge can use the feed. If their pledge becomes inactive, the feed stops working. But it will become active again when they renew the pledge.
So this means that if you stop supporting, you will lose access to the feed. They will still be up for at least 1-2 days before the month ends, so you can absolutely speed run listening to them if you need to drop support the following month.
Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions either here or on Discord!
