Chapter 13 – Training for the Sports Festival

“Alright, let’s see what I can do with this.” Izuku exhaled and then inhaled, steadying his breathing and preparing to use a new Quirk for the first time in a while. He was using one of the practice fields on the U.A. Campus and had made sure to be far away from anyone else just in case anything went wrong. He didn’t want to endanger anyone as he worked to figure out his new Quirks.

Reaching within himself, Izuku sought out the new power that he’d copied from the fog-like Villain at the USJ. It didn’t take him long to find it, the feeling it gave him was so very different to anything he currently possessed. It was like trying to catch smoke with your hands, it was there but also not. As he took hold of his new Quirk he set about analyzing it.

‘There’s no way this is natural, but it functions completely normally.’ Izuku mused as the analysis aspect of his Quirk took in every detail about the Warp Gate Quirk. ‘Three Quirks, all with different functions, let’s see… Warping to transport objects through space. Map Coordinate to allow for travelling to specific locations, even if the User has never been there. Finally…Cloud? What is its purpose?’ The verdette teen let his Quirk continue its analysis for a bit longer until the most likely answer was deduced. ‘I get it; it’s a semi-physical construct that allows the Warping Quirk to be directed away from the User’s body to any point specified by the Map Coordinate Quirk. These three Quirks put together make up the Warp Gate Quirk.’

“Who had the mind to experiment like this though?” Izuku couldn’t stop the shudder that ran through his body at the thought. It was a sickening idea to think someone had the capability to mess with Quirks on such a level. Izuku shook himself and prepared to start training with the Warp Gate Quirk. It would be ridiculously useful for a Hero to have such a Quirk. Just thinking of how many people he could help with this Quirk made a bright smile come to Izuku’s face.

He activated the Quirk and watched as black fog or mist appeared in front of him. The gate he’d made was only about fifteen centimeters wide, but Izuku wanted to take it slow and get a feel for this new Quirk. It was an odd sensation to know that you’d just warped space. Izuku even knew where this small gate led. He’d targeted his own bedroom back at home. The swirling black mists weren’t see through, but Izuku knew that the gate led exactly where he wanted it to thanks to the Map Coordinate aspect of the Quirk and his own familiarity with the location.

‘Here goes nothing.’ Izuku took a steadying breath and placed his hand into the swirling, black fog. It didn’t really feel like anything, to be honest. Well, nothing weird at least. Just like moving your hand through fog or mist that you might walk through in the early morning. Feeling something on his hand he used his sense of touch to determine what it was that he was in contact with. With a smile Izuku grasped the item and pulled his hand back. The Warp Gate closed and Izuku smiled as he looked at one of his All Might pens that he kept at home.

With his first test successful, Izuku opened another Warp Gate to his bedroom. This time he’d made the gate big enough to walk through. In just a few steps he was standing in his bedroom. He could hear his mother downstairs, probably tidying up the house before she went shopping. He placed the pen back on his desk before walking back through the still open gate. He emerged back where he’d started and closed the gate behind him. The verdette teen realized that he’d just traveled kilometers instantaneously. Such power made Izuku really appreciate the utility and versatility of the Warp Gate Quirk.

From there it was figuring out the limitations of the Quirk. Izuku opened gates and jumped through them, landing on top of buildings and noting the effects of his travel. He quickly learned that the gates were straight tunnels. He couldn’t open a gate with multiple destinations. He could, however, open multiple gates that all had the same destination. The end point was the key to the Quirk. So long as the gate was formed at the desired location, it didn’t matter how many people passed through any number of other gates that connected to that point. Izuku was quickly noting all of this down in his notebook, of course. Now that he’d gotten the basics down, it was time to experiment further.

“First test, what happens when the gate is closed on a physical object?” Izuku noted down the test as he placed an empty aluminum can on the ground in front of him. The gate swirled into existence beneath the can and Izuku closed it when the can began to fall. The bottom of the can fell to the ground with a clatter from the exit gate that Izuku had formed a meter away from the starting gate. The two halves were both crushed in the middle. ‘Any object that is halfway between the two points is crushed until it’s severed at the point the gate closes on them.’ Izuku noted the finding and made sure to remember it. This Quirk, while incredibly useful, had an immensely easy way to kill someone.

Izuku then began a series of sprints through the mock cityscape he was practicing in. The gates formed quickly when they were in his line of sight. He could warp from one rooftop to the next, or even one further away if the exit point was within his field of view. This was the fastest way to use the Warp Gate Quirk that Izuku had found so far. Instead of using the Map Coordinate aspect of the Quirk, his sight designated the location much faster.

‘With line of sight the gates can be formed faster, but range is limited. Long distance gates require the Map Coordinate part of the Quirk to successfully function.’ Izuku jotted down into his notebook as he took a break. He’d dashed across the majority of the mock cityscape in record times, compared to when he enhanced his physicality with his other Quirks. The Warp Gate Quirk was surprisingly easy to use once he got the hang of it. Now he just needed to practice the long distance gates and he’d feel pretty solid in his use of this Quirk.

‘Let’s try that out now.’ Izuku mused as he stood up. He focused on the Map Coordinate part of Warp Gate and got an approximation of his desired location. He still needed to practice with Tactile Hydrokinesis too, so the outdoor pool would be the best for this. He made sure that he was going to land in the pool itself by fine-tuning the Map Coordinate. Satisfied that he wouldn’t be getting an unexpected soaking, Izuku stepped through the gate.

And face-first into a concrete wall.

“Ow, mmph!” Izuku held his nose with his right hand as he closed the gate behind him and took a step back. Looking around he noticed he was at the outdoor pool, but that in his desire not to get soaked, he’d moved the gate too far and ended up walking directly into the wall of the locker rooms. A quick application of Healing Aura and the pain faded away.

“Midoriya?” Tsuyu spoke up and Izuku turned in surprise. The frog-like girl was standing near the doors to the locker rooms and looking at him. She was wearing a U.A. school swimsuit and Izuku couldn’t help but notice how it clung to her body. Even though the suit covered everything from neck to mid-thigh, it was still showing off Tsuyu’s figure quite well.

“Hi, Tsuyu.” Izuku smiled as he tried not to look like he’d just run face first into the wall.

“What’re you doing at the pool?” Tsuyu questioned her fellow verdette. He was in his regular uniform, so she wasn’t sure that he was here to use the pool.

“I’m trying to get in some practice with my new Tactile Hydrokinesis Quirk. The one I copied from that Villain at the USJ.” Izuku informed her with a determined smile.

“I see,” Tsuyu put her right index finger on her chin. Izuku thought she looked adorable when she did that. “That makes sense, we’re here to swim and work on our endurance.”

“We?” Izuku blinked as he looked around and didn’t see anyone else.

“Ochako, Momo, and Camie are with me today.” Tsuyu informed her crush with a cute croak at the end.

“Oh, that’s great.” Izuku tried not to imagine all four girls in swimsuits. He really did. But the other three arrived and made that literally impossible.

“Midoriya?” Momo blinked as she stepped outside and noticed Tsuyu next to Izuku.

“Midoriya?” Ochako parroted as she also caught sight of the verdette pair.

“Izuku!” Camie was all smiles as she walked over. She may have added a slight sway to her hips while she walked towards her crush.

“Yaoyorozu, Uraraka, Camie.” Izuku greeted each of the girls. He was becoming flustered as Camie walked towards him. She was doing that on purpose wasn’t she!

“Did you come to swim too, Izuku?” Camie asked as she leaned forward a bit. The school swimsuit wouldn’t let her show any cleavage, but she knew it clung to her figure and that’d be enough to tease Izuku.

“Um, actually, I was coming here to practice with my new Quirk.” Izuku was trying not to be a total pervert, but his eyes did run up and down what Camie was showing off to him. The fawn-haired girl caught his eyes and gave him a flirty smile and a wink. Izuku knew his cheeks had just flared red.

“Oh? Well then you’ll need to change, right?” Camie smiled at him.

“Huh?” Izuku blinked at the girl.

“You’ll get your clothes wet if you practice with a water-based Quirk.” Tsuyu pointed out to her crush. “You should change into the school-issued swimsuit so that you can dry off and change afterwards.”

“Right, that does make sense.” Izuku nodded in agreement. He’d been planning to do that anyway, well, before he knew the four of them were here at any rate. “I’ll be back in a bit.” He waved to the four girls as he headed into the male locker rooms.

“Score!” Camie cheered with a bright grin on her face. “Nice one, Tsu-chan!” She gave the other girl thumbs up.

“Kero.” Tsuyu smiled back while looking very pleased with herself.

“Midoriya in a swimsuit…” Momo’s hands were on her red cheeks as she imagined it.

“All bare-chested and wet.” Camie teased as she came up behind Ochako.

“Camie~” Ochako’s face was so red that she hid behind her hands.

“Let’s get started on our swimming.” Momo suggested as she walked towards the side of the pool to begin stretching. Her red cheeks hadn’t lessened at all.

“Right-o!” Camie agreed with a mischievous grin as she followed along.

While the girls were stretching, Izuku emerged from the locker rooms. He had on the standard issue U.A. male swimsuit which was just form-fitting dark blue trunks with a red and white stripe on each side. They were modelled on the swimwear of professional male swimmers. U.A. certainly didn’t do things by halves.

“Oh…” Izuku felt like he’d been blessed with some kind of pervert luck as he’d walked out just as the four girls had bent down to touch their toes. All four of them were blessed with very nice bottoms. He averted his gaze as the girls stood up straight and took notice of him.

“Nice~” Camie muttered lowly as she took in the sight of a shirtless Izuku.

“Camie, shhh!” Ochako was so easy to fluster. Camie grinned back at the girl as she noted that the brunette was clearly checking Izuku out too.

“I’ll just be over here.” Izuku pointed to the opposite side of the pool before heading over. He had the strangest feeling that the girls were staring at him though. As he began to go through his own stretches the girls got into the pool.

“We’re supposed to be swimming…” Momo reminded the other three girls. To be fair all four of them were watching Izuku stretch more than anything, but at least Momo was trying to swim.

“Right, right…” Camie giggled as she fell backwards into the water.

The four girls began to swim the length of the pool in laps. Tsuyu was naturally the fastest of them. Her Quirk made that easy for her. Camie proved her athleticism by being the next fastest. The voluptuous teen swam with great form and was still able to enjoy brief glimpses of her shirtless crush. Ochako and Momo kept pace with each other as they did laps. Both were using the activity to take their minds off the boy they liked being so close and bare-chested at that.

‘Focus! Focus!’ Izuku mentally chastised himself over and over again. He needed to practice with Tactile Hydrokinesis! His teenage hormones disagreed, however. He repeatedly caught himself watching the swimming girls. With a fierce shake of his head, Izuku refocused on why he was at the pool.

‘First test, what is the total range of the Quirk?’ Izuku placed his hand into the pool and activated the Quirk. Water clung to his hand and Izuku took a second to get a feel for the Quirk. The next step was to spread the effect out and see when it tapered off. Izuku felt, more than anything else, as the Quirk expanded outwards from his hand and through the water. He felt the bottom of the pool first, though he was at the shallow end of only about a meter. The range continued to increase until Izuku felt the changes in the water’s movement as the girls swam through it. ‘It seems the range is roughly twenty meters, almost the whole pool.’

“Huh,” Tsuyu noticed a change in the water as she took a break after completing her first set of laps. “The water is moving kind of weird.”

“Is it?” Camie questioned as she finished her first set and stood beside the frog-like girl. The sudden current of the water heading towards Izuku confirmed Tsuyu’s statement.

“I did it.” Izuku smiled as he lifted his hand up. Surrounding his extended hand was a large ball of water. He didn’t know exactly how many liters this was, but he thought it would easily fill the bath tub at home.

“That’s so cool, Midoriya.” Ochako complimented as she stood up in the shallow end with the other girls.

“Very much so.” Momo smiled at the verdette.

“Thank you.” Izuku smiled at the praise as he tried to change the shape of the water under his control. The water was difficult to keep in shape, but Izuku was pretty sure he could do it. Thinking three dimensionally was a bit difficult though. The water ball’s surface rippled and wobbled near constantly as he tried to shape it. Eventually Izuku’s control lapsed and the ball fell apart, soaking Izuku as gravity asserted its control on the liquid. Shaking his head to get his wet hair off his face he stood up.

“I want that, kero.” Tsuyu’ eyes were following the water trailing down Izuku’s torso. He looked very good soaking wet in her opinion.

“Me too~” Camie grinned even licking her lips as she tried to memorize the sight and burn it into her brain.

“Oh my…” Momo was feeling things she had never felt before as she watched Izuku’s drenched form.

“Mmm…” Ochako stifled an appreciative hum as she saw Izuku wet and bare-chested, just like Camie said. The mental image she’d conjured up when the fawn-haired girl had teased her had nothing on the real deal.

“Okay, so shaping the water is difficult.” Izuku made a mental note as he pushed his wet hair back out of his eyes. “If it reaches about twenty meters, does that mean I can manipulate that much all at once?”

“Should we get out of the pool, Midoriya?” Momo questioned as it seemed like Izuku wanted to see just how much water his new Quirk would let him control.

“Ah, no, you don’t have to, I can check this later.” Izuku shook his head.

“It’s fine, we don’t mind.” Ochako assured as she stepped climbed the ladder out of the pool.

“Thank you all, I’ll be quick so you can get back to your swimming, I promise.” Izuku gave them a short bow.

“No problem, Midoriya.” Tsuyu smiled as she followed after Ochako.

‘Stop staring, they’re gonna think you’re a pervert!’ Izuku shouted in his own head. That did nothing to stop his eyes from following the forms of the four young ladies as they each climbed the ladder out of the pool. The water cascading off their forms was a sight. The wet swimsuits clung to them like a second skin leaving little to the imagination. ‘Focus!’

“Go ahead, Izuku!” Camie cheered with a knowing smile. Izuku jerked at seeing the look, but none of the four teens seemed to care, if the other three had even noticed at all.

With a deep breath and then a long exhale to refocus himself, Izuku slipped into the pool and waded to the middle of the shallow end. He activated the Tactile Hydrokinesis Quirk and let the effect spread through the pool. With a bit of effort, probably from the amount of water, he began to ‘lift’ with the Quirk. The pool water rose upwards and only a bit in the deep end of the pool remained as Izuku levitated the majority of the pool water.

“Wow…” Momo and Ochako both reacted in unison while Tsuyu and Camie blinked at seeing the floating pool.

‘This is harder than I thought.’ Izuku had a strained face as he held the water aloft. The Quirk was capable of it, but it seemed like it would be easier to manipulate a portion of the total amount that the Quirk could control with greater force, rather than trying to use the full amount. ‘That was how the Villain used it too. I’d get more usability from the Quirk if I did something similar.’ With a steady exhale, Izuku poured the water back into the pool in a controlled stream. Once the pool was refilled Izuku released the Quirk.

“Yahoo!” Camie exclaimed as she jumped into the pool right next to Izuku, splashing the verdette in the process.

“Camie!” Izuku sputtered as he shook his head and wiped the water from his face.

“Kero.” Tsuyu leaped into the pool as well. She was a bit further away though, so Izuku wasn’t splashed again.

“Cannonball!” Ochako giggled as she splashed into the pool.

“I’ll just get in normally.” Momo grinned as she stepped off the edge of the pool and into the water with a small splash.

“Izuku!” Camie smiled brightly at her crush. “I just had an idea!”

“What’s that?” Izuku titled his head slightly.

‘Cute~’ All four girls thought simultaneously.

“You can control most of the pool water, right?” Camie inquired with a grin and bright eyes. “What if you made a resistance current for us to swim against? You could practice with your new Quirk and we’d get a better workout in! Total win-win!”

“Oh, yeah I should be able to do that.” Izuku pounded his right fist into his left palm with a thoughtful look on his face. “That’s a great idea, Camie.”

“Yep!” Camie gave a peace sign as she winked at him.

“Let’s go to the deep end then, we’ll start from there and try to swim to the shallow end.” Tsuyu suggested.

“Alright, that sounds like it’ll be much more intense.” Momo nodded with a cute determined look on her face. The ravenette was practically bouncing with sparkles around her.

“I’ve never swam against a current before.” Ochako mentioned as the four girls turned towards the deep end and swam towards the far wall.

“Ready?” Izuku asked once all four of them were holding onto the edge of the pool on the opposite said from him.

“Ready!” Camie called out with a wave.

Izuku activated the Quirk again and let it reach out to the water from his body. Once he had control of the pool water, he began to cycle it. The water on the bottom flowed along floor of the pool and then rose up following the slope. When it got to the shallows, Izuku pulled it to the surface and sent it towards the far end of the pool. The water above the deep end naturally flowed down to fill in the space that the water was vacating under the Quirk’s effect. In short order Izuku had a mild current flowing in the pool for the girls to swim against.

“This will be fun, kero.” Tsuyu had a big smile on her face at the moving water.

“First one to Izuku gets to feel his muscles!” Camie declared before pushing off the wall with her legs and swimming forward against the current.

“Hey!” Ochako quickly swam after her with a pout.

“That wasn’t very sportsman-like, Camie!” Momo also swam after them leaving Tsuyu the only one still holding onto the wall.

“You fools, kero.” Tsuyu had a down right smug look on her cute face. With a single push from her powerful legs she cleared the gap that had formed between her and the other three. Two more strong kicks with her unique physiology and she was right in front of Izuku.

“That was amazingly fast, Tsuyu.” Izuku praised his fellow verdette.

“Thank you, Midoriya.” Tsuyu smiled happily as the other three finally made it to the shallows near them.

“Right, forgot, challenging Tsu-chan to swimming was never going to work out.” Camie was breathing a bit heavily from swimming against the current.

“You were so fast, Tsu.” Ochako smiled at the other girl.

“We never really stood a chance, did we?” Momo smiled softly as she caught her breath.

“Well, claim your prize, Tsu-chan!” Camie encouraged with her tongue poking out between her pouty lips.

“Prize?” Izuku blinked only for Tsuyu to move closer to him. She had a cute little blush on her cheeks as she stood in front of him.

“May I, Midoriya?” Tsuyu questioned with one of the most adorable looks Izuku had ever seen on a girl’s face before. Her hands were held in front of her, palms facing towards Izuku.

“Okay?” Izuku wasn’t entirely sure what he was agreeing to. Did Tsuyu want a hug or something? The teen’s face instantly went red when Tsuyu’s hands touched his pectorals and then slowly trailed down as the girl gently explored his musculature. “T-Ts-Tsu-Tsuyu?!”

“Is this not okay, Midoriya?” Tsuyu was about to pull her hands back feeling as if she may have crossed a line. Thankfully, before any misunderstanding could take place, Izuku’s teenage hormones kicked in and he shook his head no.

“I-It’s f-fine.” Izuku stuttered a bit, but he let her continue. Tsuyu, also blushing, resumed her feeling as she ran her hands over his torso.

“You’re very well-muscled, Midoriya.” Tsuyu mumbled as the two verdette teens had a hard time meeting each other’s eyes.

“Thank you,” Izuku was pretty sure his face could boil water right now from how hot it felt. “You’re hands are soft, Tsuyu.” The frog-like girl ducked her head but had the brightest smile on her face.

“Alright, let’s get back to it.” Camie interrupted with a teasing grin. “We all want a turn after all.”

“Huh?” Izuku snapped his head up to look at the tease of Class 1-A.

“What?” Camie giggled at the look on his face. “You don’t think Tsu-chan is the only one here that wants to feel those nice muscles, do you?”

“Yaoyorozu? Uraraka?” Izuku turned to the Zero Gravity User and the Creation User with wide eyes. He found both girls blushing up a storm while pretending they weren’t watching the interaction.

“We still have more training to get to first.” Camie playfully shook her head at the brunette and the ravenette. “We can talk more afterwards.”

“What?” Izuku felt like he was missing something here.

“Actually, we could make this a regular thing.” Camie suggested with a grin. Ochako, Momo, and Tsuyu all perked up at the idea of spending more time with a shirtless, wet Izuku.

“Really?” Izuku asked with a slight tilt to his head. This prompted another round of the girls finding the verdette to be cute.

“Don’t you want to train with us for the Sports Festival, Izuku?” Camie asked with puppy dog eyes. The sheer power of that begging look would break any teen’s will.

“Yes, I’d like that very much!” Izuku blurted out as his higher thinking was viciously beaten into submission by the duo of teenage hormones and animal instinct. This was no time for reasoning and logic!

“Great!” Ochako, Momo, Tsuyu, and Camie chorused at the same time. Bright, beautiful smiles met Izuku’s gaze and he found himself smiling back as his heart thumped loudly in his chest.

The five teens spent the rest of the day together before heading home. Izuku had a spring in his step and a smile that wouldn’t leave his face. He’d exchanged numbers with all of the girls and couldn’t be happier. For a guy that hadn’t had much female interaction growing up, he was certainly making some rather close female friends now!

Well, well, well now, what have we here? Is that progress we’re seeing?

Izuku starts training with Warp Gate and Tactile Hydrokinesis. There are still many kinks to work out and ways to use these Quirks to be found.

More importantly though, swim time with the four pretty girls that are crushing on you! Even with U.A.’s rather conservative swimsuits, the girls have more than enough to flaunt! Izuku will be acclimated to their presence and their touch.
