I was wondering how you would feel about this fight from back at the sports festival when you said that a matchup between these two wouldn’t be something you would want to see (at least at that point). But this fight made sense- though I agree that it could have been a conversation rather than a physical fight, I mean even if Bakugo needed to work out his emotions/feelings in a physical manner, It didn’t have to be another person as his punching bag (though arguably it could have been Kirishima/red head and he wouldn’t have actually gotten hurt much unless he pushed it to the point where his hardening quirk gave out- but it makes sense given what he was struggling with that it had to be Midoriya). I think we can put together and understand why he’s always hated Midoriya- imo he’s been brought up to believe that needing help is weakness, and weakness is failure (remember back during the home visits, it could have been a throwaway line, but I think not, his mother said something like that if he hadn’t been so weak and allowed himself to get kidnapped, then he wouldn’t have caused so much trouble- which I’ve seen many point out is victim blaming- but I think it at least points to his attitude of needing to be the strongest and never need help as being learned at home). So in his mind, he genuinely believed that Midoriya always being there holding out a helping hand was out of condescension and/or pity- that the help was being offered perhaps to lord it over the fact that he had failed in some way. Sure, maybe he didn’t have to care if Midoriya actually thought he was better than him, but I’d argue that up until UA, a lot of the time Midoriya was actively trying to be his friend rather than avoid him despite the bullying, so in Bakugo’s mind, Midoriya was always right there in front of him- and I think another thing was that perhaps somewhere deep down Bakugo knew that Midoriya’s attitude of always wanting to help was genuine, and since he couldn’t understand that, he was perhaps jealous, and since people often fear/hate what they can’t understand, he bullied him (not justifying it, bullying was just one possible way to act on his feelings, and certainly not the right or best way- really the worst way). Bakugo is highly intelligent, and he had been putting all of the pieces together since All Might’s last fight- learning about All For One and what he could do with quirks added to what Midoriya told him about having a borrowed quirk (that he initially dismissed and probably thought Midoriya was intentionally lying to mock him or whatever)- plus the fact that he also has always idolized All Might and blames himself for his retirement led to this boiling point. I think they have come to understand each other better, but Bakugo of course still has a ways to go, and it remains to be seen if Bakugo will actually learn and improve after this- their short interaction in the post credit was encouraging imo- Bakugo gave him real feed back- and if you couldn’t tell, him saying that Midoriya adding punches in with the kicks “really pissed him off” translated to him saying that was a good strategy lol

This is a great writeup. I'll talk about this in my next intro. If I forget, please remind me because there's meat on this bone
