I've gone off the rails with this intro linked below. It's an intro for both this video AND Yellowjackets Episode 4. So, if you haven't seen the series Yellowjackets and intend to at some point, do NOT click on the link below. If you have seen it or don't care about spoilers for that show, proceed.

There was a mini-series about Charles Darwin's voyage on the beagle in the 70s that narrated the captain's log - i wonder if that was inspired by star trek? The equivalent of Darwin's notes for his book on the voyage would probably be a more realistic "supplemental captain's log" tbh Having a narrator can really change the feel of a work. The manga of evangelion lets us see what shinji is thinking (because narration is more natural in manga than a show) and it changes how he comes across a lot.

They're not in just one solar system. The writers talking about "orbits" and the like is a mistake, either on their part or that of the translators. I didn't notice it when i first watched, now you've pointed it out i can't un-notice it xD Gundam is all set in our solar system so you can tell an entire 50-series long franchise in 1 solar system too ;P

I was re-watching Dominic Noble's videos on Twilight and Shades of Grey and he talked about how the inner thoughts of both main characters in the novels make you REALLY hate them and how that's absent in the movies because they didn't do narration. So it can actually improve the movie/TV version too. But I think in most cases not being able to know what the protag is thinking hurts the story (Like in Hunger Games)

Now that you say that I bet its a translation thing. Like in LOGH where they talk about "sinking" spaceships
