McKenna DeFranco

i interpreted bigger than the whole sky to be about unexpected loss - my mind went to miscarriage/pregnancy loss immediately especially with the “i’m never gonna meet” lyric, but even if that’s not what taylor had in mind when writing it i’ve already seen women who’ve had these tragic yet incredibly common experiences identify with the song in that way and be so appreciative that taylor wrote it which is a beautiful thing to see

Would've Could've Should've may have topped All Too Well for me (the OG, for sure, still ruminating on if it's better than the 10min version). The devastation in there is visceral. I bet the rerecordings are forcing her to open up a lot of old wounds she still needs to heal from. Also...this one was the one before Red, i believe. A certain JM who i was reminded lived in a converted church. But beyond that, you can definitely tell which tracks Aaron Dessner had a hand in. I hope you can get ahold of the target exclusive (for the moment) "Hits Different"!! You will adore it!

This is what I immediately took it to be about, too. I've had a miscarriage and I've also lost a very young daughter. The line "I'm never gonna meet what could've been, would've been, what should've been you" really hits hard. It's a beautiful song.

would’ve, could’ve, should’ve is absolutely one of her best songs! i have no doubt that while re-recording dear john she realized she had even more to say and with her being 32, the age he was during their relationship, it opened those old wounds because she’s wondering how the hell someone her age could look at an innocent 19 year old and pursue them romantically

Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve is definitely my favorite. I think it’s very similar to Demi’s 29, both talking about how as an adult they’re even more bothered by that early relationship. I love the whole album.

Monica Torres

I’m actually shocked that not a single reactor has understood the meaning of bigger than the whole sky and think it’s about a lover. I must not have listened to the same song

Would've Could've Should've is probably one of my favorite Taylor songs. And with everything we know about how John Mayer, it's no surprise that she still seems traumatised by that relationship

I am so glad we got some Aaron Dessner songs. :) The headphones part in High Infidelity is about Calvin Harris since he is a DJ. ;) Would've, Could've, Should've is clearly about John Mayer, she even uses the word Clarity in the song and he has a song named Clarity.

I definitely think it's about a pregnancy loss. Not saying hers, but someone's.

Clarissa

I read an Interpretation of Bigger than the whole Sky where it could be about mourning the person you could have become if you hadn‘t experienced trauma at one point in your life and i‘m unwell ever since🥲

Talía Caraveo

There are some amazing tracks on this too! My favorites at the moment are Paris, would've, could've, should've, dear Reader, great war.. As always love Your reaction! Can't wait for the reaction to the music videos, specially bejeweled, it's one of the best things I've ever seen, so many easter eggs!!!

The 3am tracks are all incredible but my favorites from first listen were probably Glitch, Dear Reader, and High Infidelity. I totally agree that the songs have a dream-like feel to them with the floating feeling in the production and the lyricism and word play she uses to describe certain emotions and events. I lowkey geeked out at High Infidelity because the date she mentions in it just happens to be my birthday. To sum it up, I'm basically obsessed with this new project from Taylor and I can't wait to see what other surprises this era has in store for us 🤗💖

Soren

Oof, thank you for sharing this; I hadn’t seen that interpretation and it hits hard

Soren

So sorry for your losses, Karen 💔❤️

Tiffany

I feel like John Mayer had three glorious hours where he thought he was in the clear and then at 3am she releases Would've Could've Should've lol

Leanne W

I definitely seen Bigger Than the Whole Sky as a miscarriage/pregnancy loss. Not necessarily hers, maybe someone close to her as we all know she can write amazing lyrics from other people's experiences too.

I so enjoyed this journey with you, Steven. It never fails, that no matter how many times that I have listened to Taylor, I always fall more in love after watching/listening to you enjoy them. Would've, Could've, Should've, I think had to be about John Mayer, which makes Dear John, that much stronger. Glad to support you, and energy to you to be strong!
