[Concept Mini] The Amaranth's New Clothes (Patreon)

Following previous design sessions, I took another attempt at Amaranth's outfit design.

I've played with this aesthetic before, even briefly in the last attempt. The design in this sketch communicates a similar level of fanciness, while still feeling like an adventurer's outfit -- which is what we've typically gone for in previous attempts. Compromise! 

I feel much more content with this design than I usually do.

Design Thoughts

I wanted to reduce the amount of visual noise seen in previous design attempts, choosing to focus on large, simpler shapes that are easier to read. So, gone are the various triangles and complicated shape language. Instead, we now have 3 clear major parts: the coat, legs, and the boots. The top is grouped into one shape, the legs another, and the shoes another.

The shortened cape improves the readability of his silhouette and helps distinguish it from Elayne's & The Vampire Queen's. A lot more attention is given to the legs, and it's cute too. Another tiny detail is that the crotch is now being covered -- I always thought it was weird to expose that when Amaranth's under-suit is typically drawn to be form-fitting.

Though it seems like wearing a messenger bag over this outfit will be troublesome. So we could offload some of their inventory onto their belt, but it does technically feel different.

Additional Info

This post marks the introduction of something that I'm calling the "Concept Art Mini." 

In truth, this isn't actually very new or unique. It's just taking our current idea of the concept art posts & making them smaller so that they resemble the earliest Concept Art posts. I am creating a distinction because I feel as though I've created a certain expectation for these posts and those expectations are getting a lot harder to keep up with lately.

This allows me to worry about one less major deadline every month, and provides you with content a bit more frequently, since you don't have to wait for a massive essay EVERY time.
