33:15 - A little insight from a novel reader, you have to keep in mind, this is not the first time that Rudeus has witnessed slavery, if you remember when they were in the Milis continent and ran into Paul and Norn, Paul said that many people teleported were enslaved and they (Pauls rescue squad) were stealing slaves, which was highly illegal in that country but through a loophole, they managed, and unfortunately it is very common for this world, some cities even depend on it for their economy, basically anyone with a debt that they can't pay can very easily end up a slave in this world. Some are kidnapped and sold off to nobility, for example, the Doldia people aka. beast people are frequently bought up by a certain Asuran noble family with a name of a color and a rodent (aka. Greyrats, if you remember Eris' family and their maids) while some maybe get into dept and sell themselves to pay it, or in Julies case, the whole family goes into slavery to pay off that dept but between a child with no skills and two skilled dwarf artisans, Julie just got left behind while her parents were bought, hence the loneliness and despair... but everything will be okay now with Master Zanoba and Grandmaster Rudeus looking out for her <3

Saving them would be hard anyway. It is a legal and normal thing in the world and country so he'd be breaking the law going against the state and constantly be on the run. If it was underground and illegal he for sure would have saved everyone I think personally. But in this situation it's like how people go break into all the different places with animals to free them in our world. Those places are legal and it's a crime. Not saying it's the right answer but in this world as you said there is nothing he could do in the situation. Dark but way more realistic.

The people Rudy saved were those who were kidnapped and such for the blackmarket. These people are basically debt slaves. It's their own fault/ their parents fault. So in their world its a different situation. He can't really go and free them since he would go to jail.

The slave in this episode were debt slave, is a legal system in the world of Mushoku Tensei, Rudeus doing anything in that place would cause a political war at the scale of the entire kingdom and he has no political power in that world. It is a sad truth of the world he is living in, also Redeus has 15 years living in that world and slaves are everywhere, is a part of life for him so for us is looking really bad but for them is just the way of the world. Even the mass teleportation disaster got so many people into slavery, part of paul work was looking for everyone after the disaster cause they were put into slavery, and all that is legal to some extent in that world.

I get wanting him to save the slaves, coming from a modern mindset... but hes in a city and that would essentially be the same thing as going with friends to "liberate" a bunch of high end cars (in that they are both seen as property of a legal business and just up and taking them is a crime... compounded if you are attacking people). Its a good way to make the authorities your enemy and become a criminal. I dunno if many people would actually have the guts to go against the world to fight something the whole of society deems totally fine and normal. And you made a good distinction. The beast people were being attacked and kidnapped, so saving them was a good deed and seen as just to the world. The slave market is selling legal (or at least laundered to be legal on paper) slaves, so trying to free them would just get you taken down and probably sold as a slave to make up for damages. Great reaction though! And yeah, I am also loving the whole rom com confused Rudy xD

Did everyone gloss over the post discussion, they clearly understand why Rudy couldn't do anything about the slaves- nevertheless, its still uncomfortable to watch.

One of the many reasons why I love mushoku tensei is the fact that it hits touchy subjects without really holding back. Its a story being told. It isn't like we should take a portion of reality and lock it away because it may hurt someone's feelings and its a rough subject to bring up.

You guys can't handle the fact that Rudy isn't some stupid shonen goody two shoes that magically saves all of the slaves because the slaves topic is brought up? Its a touchy subject but its a story. Wtf do you expect Rudy to do? Take the entire area off the map and just go back to his school life as if nothing happened? I am just confused with the comments made in the ending discussion.

I do think this is one of the more mature and realistic takes on slavery in anime kinda like Naofumi in shield hero but it is definitely still very icky.

I think most of us like to think in this situation we’d go and make a whole campaign to tear down slaver. Though I think a lot ALOT of people wouldn’t really have the stomach for it. I think I maybe could but I am a veteran and very much a goody two shoes so it would be harder for me to live with not doing something personally.

The problem is that you're judging the people living in a different time period by today's moral standards. If you were born back then, chances are you would think exactly as them, and have similar opinions. Most people are comformists who adapt the most popular and socially wide spread beliefs. Slavery was a thing for ALMOST ALL of recorded human history on ALL continents and societies. Perhasps people 100 years in the future will look at us in disgust for something we are doing today, and say ''why are they so stupid, if it was me I'd change it blah blah blah''

I get the feeling that a lot of people in the comments either didn't watch the end discussion or didn't get it. Lee said he gets why Rudy didn't save the slaves, but seeing them still gave him a visceral reaction. If seeing slavery and kids in chains, behind cages, malnourished, doesn't evoke some sense of disgust and yearning to help them, that says more about you than someone reacting with natural horror. We get that Slavery is institutionalized and legal in this world, so Rudy can't go freeing the slaves without backlash - however, being empathetic to the plight of those in chains is a completely understandable reaction and shouldn't be mocked nor should the emotions felt while watching this scene be diminished as unreasonable or something we "can't handle" like some people have put it.

if rujerd was around that would have played out far differently :S you guys are probably right, rudy should have got some granite or something really hard. something zanoba's strength would be an asset with. It took rudy like 3 or 4 years before he was that good, i believe you see him doing it in episode 2 and the figures are very crude. the most impressive thing is that sylphie was basically able to copy his technique instantly. shes basically a bit of a prodigy when it comes to magic. rudy is better then her because hes constantly practicing but shes actually perhaps better then rudy in raw talent. he just has a bigger mana pool and had the boost of the adult mind.

I don't get notifications for responses for patreon so I am late but anyone would obviously get bothered by it. I was saying I was confused why I heard some complaints why rudy wasn't more bothered and why rudy didn't do more. Nothing wrong with being rubbed the wrong way by it. That is completely understandable lol. Its the fact that I took it as you guys are trying to shove aside that subject because its touchy. I may be wrong. Just the way I took it. I want more discussion around it without being as touchy about it. Its a reality that has to be faced and discussion around it and being more open to talking about it is, I think, the best way to handle it.

Now also I have seen people complaining and being like "why didn't rudeus do something about it and why isn't he more bothered?" like that is exactly what roshi's group did. Its like because its so touchy people automatically go to the same thing in a story and expect the MC to do something about it immediately. Again I am not speaking for everyone but because it is a touchy subject and people don't wanna discuss that type of thing being in a story we get the basic standard type of responses. As if every character is the shonen MC good boy that handles everything.

I'm assuming they were providing some food for her, but because she had seemingly lost the will to live up to the point where Rudy asked her if she wanted to die and she realized she didn't, she probably wasn't eating what they gave her. You can see the warriors are definitely not malnourished, so it's probably not a business model of theirs to starve the slaves

It's just more sensitive to some viewers as a topic, but it is what it is. And I fully agree on your point what should CHILD Rudy do in that situation throw all his chances to study in the magic tower + turn a whole nation or just overall whole world against him as he doesn't agree with slavery. Not liking something and hating slavery is right mindset, but not thinking realistically situation even in fictional story would be just bad writing in my mind.

Rudy already have a lot of things to lose if he just suddenly now declare war on slavery and basically goes against accepted thing. He would lose his chance to learn magic and save his mom, he would turn a whole world against him as this isn't just here we have seen constantly slavery in this world all around in Rudy's travels. Even then Rudy is Japanese and he doesn't have the history and moral confliction like some others against slavery, he doesn't agree with it. But he can understand that it's part of this world and he is just one CHILD in it for now.
