This is technically season 4. The first show, Baki the Grappler, has two seasons. Baki (Netflix) is 3 and now 4, and Baki Hanma (the following show) will be 5 and 6. That's how the seasons are officially counted anyway.

I'm pretty sure this is officially considered the second season of Netflix's Baki, the previous 26 episodes were just split up when released.

This episode has one of the many things I love about Baki. When they actually show the show person who’s supposed to be the strongest creature actually be the strongest and act like a creature. They was hyping that Kaioh up saying yujiro can’t beat their martial arts just for buddy to get his face ripped off😭

This isn't part 3. Part 1 is Baki the Grappler which you skipped. This along with the criminal arc is part 2 called Baki. Part 3 is called Baki Hanma: Son of Ogre which recently finished. The manga also has a part 4 and 5, and 6 just started recently. This is technically season 2 of part 2 of the Baki franchise.

I remember seeing a lot of comments that specifically asked Roshi to skip the first season. I'm not sure if that played into their decision, but having never seen Baki, that struck me as odd at the time. Apparently, you don't need to watch the first anime season, or so I've been told.

Imo if you watched OG Baki you would get more of an appreciation for the characters in the Baki verse and you can see Baki build his strength up from the ground floor to how he is now. Plus the Maxim Tournament arc they had at the end of OG Baki gave you more insight on the characters we're seeing now like Retsu, Doppo, Jack, Shirakawa, etc.
