They wouldn't have done too much investigation because remember when they were questioning him about the lost gun and badge, they made up all these accusations about Andre possibly taking drugs, bringing a prostitute to a hotel room, etc. They probably thought he either lied about how he lost the gun or thought he found it at some point but if Andre was white they probably would've went the extra mile to investigate further.

He had the opportunity to be with his daughter and walk away from the situation but he was too prideful to step down when his life was on the line.
