they didn't skip the steam engine, the car uses one. And for the love potion, back in episode 1 they show that taiju didn't want it and senku made that joke knowing that he wouldn't want to drink it.

This is the point in the story where they start time skipping a lot of inventions. There's no more road maps like season 1, now it's acquire the hard part (in this episode oil) and jump forward weeks, months, years or however long it takes really to the project being done. It's never really addressed, you're expected to remember things they've built in the past, and spot them in new builds. examples this episode: the motor boat took the glass from the glasses, plus the engine from the car and added oil to make. the radio beacon took all the things from building a the phone and amplified it

An idea of how much time has past since S1 E1, Senku and Taiju were 15-16 and by the end of season 2 they're 17-18 (a year to figure out the revival fluid, and another year of them being apart after Senku "died") and now with all the builds they're about 20

Yeah agreed. That's why there's no more road maps, they've already really built the basic things and building off of that. The road maps before was because they had to acquire a bunch of things and make a bunch of things to well make more things. However now they already have all the things to make new things, so they don't really need to find new things and therefore no road map.

It's so weird to put it into perspective that Senku and the rest are without a doubt in their 20s at this point but (most likely because Shonen Jump wanted to keep them looking young) they still look the same as when they first petrified in their teenage years. It only gets more absurd later with the implied time skips.

The road maps now are more like, "we need to create something, here's all these different inventions that help create another invention that eventually helps make the main thing." Just to make a hot air balloon, like 10 different inventions and new products were made in the process. And the hot air balloon was just an invention for an even bigger goal too! With this many different shit being made, i cant blame the author for not breaking the process down COMPLETELY for each one. There's still a story that needs telling.

The Petrification was supposed to end everyone lol, That why is a "Why are yall alive" why imo, they just never knew until we started a Radio station. Kohaku and the rest only exist BECAUSE people from the old world survived. If everbody got petrified there would be no new civilization.

Great episode! I've pretty much forgotten everything that wasn't a major plot point from Season 1, and I'm a bit rusty on Season 2, so the flashbacks were pretty helpful. It feels kinda weird to say this after years of overkill from Naruto and Bleach, but I almost wish the Dr. Stone anime had MORE of these (brief) flashbacks... or perhaps a different form of visual aid to serve as a reminder of previous inventions. If we're not following road maps anymore, it'd be helpful to spend a few seconds looking at a diagram outlining the major components. Something like... Aquired: Motor Boat - Engine from refrigerator - Glass from glasses

Just a guess, maybe the thing that ended humanity was a rouge AI. That's at least more propable than a person that had like a mechanism for thawing out as soon as radio signals start somewhere. Also, the only way for the petrification to be working as it is portrayed in this show without going into fantasy would be nanobots or something along those lines.

Bro fr the execution in the anime was so amazing. One of my favorite moments from any manga ever with the abrupt switch in tone combined with boichis hyper detailed artwork. I fully expected to be let down but they nailed it with the sound design and pacing. So unsettling.
