Ok so the funny thing about the Irish is that White Angelo Saxon Americans didn't consider them one of their own. Most didn't even consider them white. They were racist towards the Irish and the Irish in turn were racist towards the groups that came after them, the Chinese in this case. The US likes to think of itself as a melting point of cultures and nationalities but really it was more like Racism Olympics. Every subsequent group that came to US were like 'Finally a worthy opponent. Our racism will be legendary.'

More than sticking up for another white dude, Bill stuck up for another cop. See all the cops in the present day who delete body cam footage or help their own get away with police brutality. Four cops finding out that one of their own is wanted for murder and choosing to cover for him isn't really that heroic.

Lee is the only ACTUAL cop in the show, and yeah Bills character bounces around so much its hard to stick with him, Ah Sahms character really develops a bit more in the second season imo
