With this MC it's more about understanding him and deciding based on what he does if you like him or not. I personally didn't like him like that from the jump but he grew on me.

Also Roshi I kind of see what you mean about a person being too straight forward maybe being a bad thing but I think depends on the person on the receiving end. For example it could be a good thing for a person like Yuigahama that is probably used to hearing people say things they think she wants to hear and not the truth.

All these characters are extremely flawed people. Hachiman in particular. After his teacher heard about how much of an edgelord he is, by a cringey exam he himself wrote, she decided it would be best to make him enter the club. SShe's a pretty great teacher.

Oreki isn't uninterested or an edgy kid, he's just lazy to the core. He says multiple times that he doesn't mind interacting with people as long as it's not draining. Hachiman on the other hand is a full-on edgelord, but he learns to stop being an idiot with season 2 and 3.

No shot does Re:Zero have good dialogue. I don't have many problems with Re:Zero, but the dialogue is definetly one of them. It's filled to the brim with point-blank exposition and I genuinely feel like going to sleep every time anyone in that show starts a conversation.
