Not until rewatching this with you guys did I realize just how ambiguous Daemon's motivations actually are. Already knowing what he says to Viserys in the throne room towards the end cast everything in a new light. At first I thought he was evil and going for the throne too, but now seeing his toast to the "heir for a day" again I see how it actually could be his own way of heartfelt mourning. He looked sad and was taking no part in the other's celebration. Listening in on the council could actually have been his way of keeping an eye on the leeches he thought were trying to take advantage of his brother (for all their supposed concern for the realm, they were revealed to have ulterior motives and plans for heirs beneficial to them). And going apeshit in the streets with the City Watch could have actually been him trying to project the strength he sees his brother as lacking. Of course, all of this could be wrong, but damn, it does make his character 1000 times more interesting.

Daemon is the definition of "great general don't make great kings" but these are times of peace and there is no need for a person like Daemon who's talent lies in battle. Looking back on it Daemon genuinely looked sad during the funeral and he wasn’t even really celebrating during the orgy scene. I think they cut out Daemon saying “heir for a day” so we don’t see how he said it. He could have easily said it in a way that honored his dead nephew. He seems like one of those types what will do what needs to be done but not necessary because of evil reasons.

You don’t have to watch GOT first, this show does a great job world building and explaining. I’d just watch GOT as a newcomer because the show is incredible and you can binge it, but even after you watch it, the only thing that it will help you do is understand some references and recognize some names and sigils, the show takes place too far in the past

I think he definitely needs to step down soon before he becomes a puppet King controlled from the shadows, like Daemon warned. I personally think Daemon is looking quite decent compared to them, lol. He hasn't done anything shady yet. Sure he might have looked brutal with how he handled passing sentences on Criminals all in one night, but back in those times everything was brutal. I am getting a "Ambitious, slightly spoiled, but ultimately well-meaning Prince" vibes from him. I don't think he is necessarily Bad/Evil.

Even without finishing this, I'd say watch at least the first 1-3 seasons of the original show first. Reason being, there was *alot* of world building during that time, and you sloooowly got introduced to the houses, politics, geography, ancient structures, and old magics slowly over time. I doubt this prequel has a slow introduction to everything with only 10 eps, as it probably expects viewers to have a baseline recognition of things. It would kind of be like watching the prequels for Star Wars or breaking bad without watching the originals. Technically possible but you lose a lot of tension and "aha" moments without context. Keep in mind I have no clue since I haven't finished the ep yet, so correct me if I'm wrong.

Huge easter egg this episode that Game of Thrones completely ignored on top of not getting the look of the throne right. The throne was created to test and prove that the man sitting in it deserved to be King. If you are cut while in that chair you should not be ruler. That’s why Viserys didn’t want anyone to know. Robert Baratheon, Joffrey and Cersei should have been shredded to ribbons but Dan and Dave ignored that bit.

I think it was a shadiveristy yt video that covered jousting, but it's pretty much just skill-based iirc. The lances used in jousting are too heavy to hold out in front of you, but light enough to hold upright, meaning that it's entirely about timing; knowing when to let the lance fall so that it hits your opponent at the exact moment it's horizontal while falling. You also need to be-able to aim the lance in the right position as it falls, so that it doesn't glance off your opponent. Most depictions of jousting however don't incorporate that element, which garners the understandable perception of an absurd event of "who gets lucky and knocks the opponent off first".

Whiel I think it's an odd choice to cast the targaryan lord as black it doesn't break the canon of the story. The first episode was well enough written and while I point out agenda insertion into these types of narratives usually leaves the story to suffer this wasn't a horrible attempt if a little sloppy in some regards. Hopefully WB produces more with this quality and less with the quality of WW1984 or Fantastic Beasts.

It's a prequel, but I feel like they will skip a lot of the world building stage assuming viewers have seen GOT. I highly recommend watching GOT (at least the first few seasons) since a lot of worldbuilding is set in it, but if you're set on never watching GOT than you should youtube vids on the events of GOT

I do think it's quite weird to change the original story just to have racial diversity in a series that's canonically rid of that race. Yeah they proved they can direct but have no god damn business writing. Seasons 1-7 did well because those two clowns had all the material in the world to draw from with the books. The reason people so unanimously hate season 8 is because it so blatantly highlighted that Benioff/Weiss had no competency when it comes to story telling and how to close off the story. In the span of season 8 almost every single character seemingly forgets every ounce of experience and motivation that made them who they were and instead took the Rian Johnson approach of just being contrary to everyone's thoughts and expectations for the sake ofbeing contrary. Its an idiotic tactic that takes no tact and is such a far removal from the other 7 seasons that it feels foreign in relation. If you are a Shakespeare fan then you should be able to tell how poor the story craft around that last season was
