You should see the actual hentai the Monogatari director used to do. It's got all the same directing "quirks" as monogatari (BLACK SCREEN, trippy camera angles, pre-shaft headtilts), except it's porn. It's impossible not to break out laughing at it. Granted, this book version of this episode went into the same excruciating detail, so it's not something he just threw in because he got nostalgic for his hentai-directing days or something.

This is really something you appreciate more as a long time anime viewer I think. I’ve seen some fucked up incest shit in my time alive, and they take it completely straight and serious. So to see the absurdity of those early 2000’s anime incest romcom’s be strewn about and paraded for their apparent strangeness really make it that much more funny. You can tell the author likes to pick the strangest parts of otaku culture and play with them.
