one thing that you (i think) got wrong. Momonga wasn't the last person on the Server. but all but 3 of his guild members quit and the others didn't log into the game. so he was the last of his guild not the last player in the game now facts that are in my head and not stated in the anime, hope I have it right: - the members he listed with the flags are the founding members if I remember correctly. - Yggdrasil was that massive that by the time of the shutdown it was not completely played. there was stlll stuff not found or researched

I've never read the source material, but I assume people "over-explain" because Overlord is talky as hell and probably leaves out a bunch of important exposition. The final battle is a good example of that. In the original reactions, they were just left scratching their heads at how it ended. Spoilers are another matter, though.

If I remember the original comments and reactions correctly, Roshi and crew had a REALLY hard time following what was going on in the show (partially because the show has a lot of exposition, partially because they were talking during important dialog, and partially just because the show isn't great at explaining itself). People who like this show were extremely frustrated by it and made that very clear in the comments.

Imma be honest, I watched all the seasons for this show cause people kept hyping it up. I thought it was mid. Hopefully I'll enjoy it more with you guys. It's a shame Odd Taxi didn't win, that show was definitely the highest quality show out of the poll, not to mention short so you could finish it and move onto another one. I think my favorite part of overlord is not having all the story and then brainstorming what was left out to make sense of the story on my own time although its definitely because the anime skips out on quite a bit of actual important scenes. They love fight scenes over some important dialogue which is fine but if you don't understand something don't feel bad. the only reason I understood most of the story is from the light novel and also from spending high school thinking about anime during classes with my friends

Man, back in 2010 whoever wrote this story greatly underestimated VR technology. Like, we'll probably have a game on-par with Yggdrasil Online within a couple decades at most. It's just absurd that this game was made in 2126 and doesn't even have voice synthesis for the characters.

Momonga wasn't the only player in the entire game. Just in his guild. In the Light novel he was thinking of going to the end of the game party at the one of the towns but decided not too. 2. Momonga passive statue (Either due to his undead passive, or his class..I forget which) subdue his emotions. So if he starts to freak out, get too angry or etc, it pulls him back down to a neutral state.

I can understand while you thought it was mid. It's all good. Overlord for me is just one of my top animes. Not sure why 100% but I just think I like the concept of someone getting sent to a new world and deciding to "Fuck it, I'm taking over for my NPCs". It's something new/interesting. As well as I feel for the main character. There were times when I would log in on starcraft or some other game/chat site and find the people I had been hanging out for years with as a teen just never getting on again.

One of the things i liked about the series was that yeah, theyre in a future with sweet-ass VR games... but that shit aint all nice. They arent in the pretty future of a sword art or accel world, its more like a1984 dystopian hellhole, and the reason everyone spends all their time in games is because its SO much more preferable than even dealing with actual real life. Thats what that "im working so much overtime now its fucking with me" line was about. PPL literally killing themselves for what would pass as minimum wage these days, as their whole ass career, because thats the best you can get.

I’d say as an overlord and anime fan, the overlord anime is mid tier at best but it has such a dedicated fanbase because the novels are actually decent novels. The novels give detail description of the buildings and environment, a bit too much politics, great characters with history and goals outside of the main cast, and mystery which gives the fanbase plenty to talk about. It has kafkaesque humor and drama that makes you root for side characters the whole novel. Although is suffers from not having an obvious “I have to beat or attain thing” goal like most shows from the beginning, it does have a goal that is created from ainz experience through the first season

As someone who owns all the LNs released so far, theres a LOT cut the fuck out. Though like most adaptations its mostly character internal monologue, which is GREAT in a book, but animating someone just sitting there, thinking to themselves for like 3 paragraphs tends to not be the most interesting thing. ;)

I actually started reading the lightnovel this show's based on fairly recently. There are a few things that they left out, mainly inner monologue and narration about either Yggdrasil's mechanics and characteristics, or Momonga's inner thoughts and reasonings about what's going on. Some of it is done a bit too quickly compared to the novel, but overall it's very faithful to the source material.

An exemple would be the water pitcher and glasses Momonga presents to Aura and Mare. In the novel, it's explained that the "hole" Momonga pulls these out of is his inventory box and the pitcher is constantly filled with water. They also cut off a LOT from Momonga's interaction with the twins.

I really wished they had've just watched a re-cap of the first season and skipped to the 2nd season. Since they've already seen it and know the story, there aren't going to be many moments that surprise or shock them or really anything that genuinely interests them. I get the feeling this season is going to be a lot of fairly boring reactions consisting of mainly: "Right, I remember this character" or "Yeah this fight was kinda dope" or "Oh yeah, I remember this season now".... So I think i'm going to wait till season 2.
