I’m convinced that the reason the moon was picked by the author, as the thing Koro blew up, was so they could make all those awesome shots with that crescent moon in the background. I mean they could have had him blow up part of Mars or something, that would be equally as scary.

I think the way they can justify that is that the assassin really was defending himself. The kids were trying to go past him . With the virus thing it was just the three of them killing a group of kids unprovoked. I know it's a weird explaination but thats the best I can think of.

basically the reason that technique nagisa did worked was because of his target. the rules of the move outlined that he had to be against someone who was an expert and who has almost experienced death. it was said that takaoka was a solider and fought in wars before. the clap basically replicated the sounds of guns/explosions that he experienced while in war (why there was a image of exploding buildings) so it threw him off guard in an almost ptsd sense. in that moment that he was caught off guard, nagisa got the W

Tbf, I forgot almost everything that happens this first season besides Takaoka because of that. The novelty of the whole "assassins but it's really school thing" got old and I just wanted it to get serious-- The next season DELIVERS though! Most of what I remember was from season 2

eh..The clap wasnt as impactful as I first remember it... But I have done it in RL so maybe it hits me a little harder...( Or something similar) Think of it like stepping on a dudes shoe in a fight, They are so focused on dodgin your hands they dont notice your feet. Its even more impactful when the person knows whats its like to get hit or slided because they focus on it even more...Like the old assasin guy said I guess technically its in the "pocket sand" category lol

@Jon that is my take as well, but i understand why it happened because the mangaka was having health issues. But that doesn't change the fact that the main story line is really weak, i think the show is carried by the characters more than the plot.
