It's a subtle reveal but Okudera got married to Tsukasa (Taki's friend that went on the trip to find itomori) It was clear that Okudera was married because she flashed her ring but if you look at the cafe scene you can also see that Tsukasa is wearing his wedding ring

I personally think this is not only one of my favorite anime and one of the best, but is also an outstanding example of how anime can do something that no live action film really can and is so unique that when I recommend this to others I can really only tell them to just watch it blind because any kind of explanation from me or synopsis they read will pretty much spoil what makes it so good and also sound really uninteresting. I'm actually surprised y'all hadn't seen this yet, this was the surprise top and most seen movie in Japan until Mugen Train came powering through like... a train. This is also imo one of the best examples of how anime not only shouldn't be localized, but also it can't really be properly localized without losing something or everything in the process, from the best example of Japanese specific gender pronouns which have no English equivalent to the very inherent deep rooted Japanese culture that cannot be glossed over by assuming the audience cannot possibly understand a different culture and must be changed "for the better".

Since you guys loved the movie you should try out other movies from Makoto Shinkai, The Garden of Words and Weathering with You (his new movie is coming out soon as well) and all of them happen in the same universe with some really neat easter eggs. Also 5cm Per Second which many consider his best work. You may want to read up on some cool things like the red thread of fate which was represented by the red cord Mitsuha was wearing. Trains also play a very big role in Shinkais movies hence why we saw a lot of them here.

My DVD ends it with "your name is" which is what they said at the end. Personally I like that translation more than "what's your name" because it makes me feel like they remember a little instead of just having a strange sense of having met.

Fun Fact: The Director of the film came out and said that Ms. Okudera, the woman Taki had a crush on, got married to Tsukasa Fujii, Taki's friend with glasses who came on the journey with them. Guess after they left Taki behind in Itomori, they really hit it off? They did show them having fun during the trip together. You can see a ring on Tsukasa's left hand for a split second at 1:34:38. It's easier to tell if the subtitles are removed.

This is my first watching this and honestly I was confused for half the movie 😂 but the end made me tear up a bit. It was good but I wished they met again while still in Highschool or atleast remembered everything or each others name at the end. I wish it was a one season anime with 24 episodes or atleast 2 seasons but this was good tho. I don’t think I’d watched it again tho some movies I only watch once

One note I remember reading somewhere is that Mitsuha is a total hypocrite when she scolded Taki for writing "I love you" instead of his name. Supposedly, she was about to do the same thing. I remember reading that the stroke she began with before being cut off is not in her name, but it IS in "I love you". Don't know enough Japanese to know if that's true, but it's hilarious if it is.

The "wa" doesn't make it a question. If the pitch of their voice went up like they were asking a question it would make sense but it sounds pretty flat to me. If they really wanted it to be a question they would have added in a question word, but they just left a blank where the names fit. Finishing it with "Kimi no na wa mitsuha/taki" makes more sense IMO than thinking the rest of the sentence is "Kimi no na wa nan desu ka?".

Fun Fact If Taki wrote his name on her palm it would have vanished too! The reason that the messages disappeared but the "I love You" did not is because in Japanese folklore, all messages of love are protected by the moon god, Tsukuyomi. TFW you realise that he woke up crying cuz' Mitsuha cried herself to sleep. Also, the saddest part for me was Mistuha's Grandmother went through the same experience but was never able to connect with her other half! It's been too long for her to remember and now she is forced to live knowing a part of her will always be missing

number 2 is Spirited away and the 1st is Demon Slayer. Although , the fact that "Your Name" is third is amazing, because Spirited Away is from a fairly long time ago where cinema and physical copies of movies were more of a thing and more lucrative, and Demon slayer was a sequel of an already famous and established franchise.

I actually prefer Weathering With You. It's a complete anti-thesis to what Your Name stood for and I can't fault it for that. People only think it's less than Your Name is because it doesn't have as much complexity in its plot.

This isnt important in the grand scheme of things but something interesting at 22 minutes in when Mitsuha was pretending to be Taki in front of his friends, she kept said Watashi, Boku and Ore, which the translation can never properly translate since its a japanese language of saying "I or me" in different ways. Watashi is usually a feminine way while Boku and Ore are more masculine. Hence she was playing around with the words until the friends were like "uh yeah". Ofc theres no way to actually translate that to english so they just put "girl" and "guy" down but in actuality she never called herself a girl. it was just the way she referred to herself (watashi) that threw them off and she tried to get the right one down.

I remember when I watched this for the first time I was absolutely convinced that the comet was magic and making them swap bodies. So when they stoped swapping bodies after it was "gone" I was just like: "Well, duhh, of course you can't swap any longer, the comet's gone!🙄" Imagine how it broke me when it got revealed that the comet was the thing that ended the swaping....but not because it's "magic" had "gone" but because it freaking killed Mitsuha🙈😭 Also: I was 100% prepared to belive that the two of them NOT getting together would be the price they had to pay for literally saving hundreds of people. So when they actually DID find each other I just broke down crying out of joy!😭
