It's not going to kill him, just give him pain. Even if you go on the assumption that it did react, it's not like it would've stopped him. He had to wait for the right moment. The constraint isn't that it would stop him, but give him a lot of pain.

That’s what I’m saying. It should’ve reacted at least, causing him immense pain in the process. The point of the ring is to cause pain whenever he tries or even think about disobeying, but it didn’t do shit. Hell, it even let Hector trap Lenore in the magic prison thing. Seems like the writers just forgot or just didn’t care and wanted to move the plot forward. Which I wouldn’t be surprised because of how they’ve treated Hector’s character.

I think it must be because he had decided against actually betraying Léonore by that point and he was simply waiting for the right time to remove the ring. He never betrayed her because his end plan for her was protection. His intent was, however, to trap and kill Carmilla whom had zero real control over him or his night creatures without Léonore. The ring also may not have caused as much pain during removal because he used Isaac's knife to do so, and the magic is much stronger but also heals. These are just theories, of course, that made the most sense to me as the show tends to explain things and not leave many plot holes.

ngl I had issues with a couple of monologues this season. They were crazy repetitive with characters making the same point over and over again with different words and analogies. It reminded me of when I had to grade papers where students would do whatever they needed to hit the minimum word count. That isaac monologue was the same for me on my first watch. It felt like it just went on for way too long. But this comment single-handedly flipped my opinion of that scene. Isaac's arc could not have been executed any better. And now with your added observations that i'm honestly not sure how I missed in the first place, that speech was the perfect ending. A couple of other speeches still too repetitive imo but this one is now cemented as one of my favorite scenes thanks to you.

Regarding the whole Hector cutting his finger off thing, remember that Forgemaster's tools have special properties. Issac's knife has been shown several times to be able to essentially cut through magic (for example the mind control spell the old wizard put on him) so it's possible only his knife could actually free Hector from the slave spell. Either that, or Hector just had to wait until he sprung his whole trap until he cut the finger off like y'all said. Because if he didn't do that, they'd just beat the shit out of him and throw him in jail again.

So something I'm just realizing in rewatching this episode w y'all. during Isaac's speech, he's squeezing the lime in the water just like the Captain showed him to do, and when he picks up the hammer and say's he's interested in "building a way to live" , it's hailing back to his conversation with Fly Eyes the Philosopher Night Creature where he said "you can use a hammer to build a house or crack a skull" That whole conversation really is Isaac demonstrating his growth both literally and symbolically with all those mementos of the encounters and experiences that have changed him.

It’s crazy how if something doesn’t look super clean it’s not considered good animation by some people. I’ve seen people look at things from the 90’s and early 2000’s with great animation and dismiss it’s animation quality due to film grain and it having that old look.

They literally approved this animation project to get made in the FIRST place for FOUR SEASONS so we wouldn't even have this series to watch if not for them. Why is everyone so dense about this? The last new castlevania game, Castlevania: lords of shadow 2 was rough and the creator works on Bloodstained now. They absolutely cannot fuck up whatever is next. On top of that Konami also approved the Castlevania stuff for Smash Bros and actually got Snake's proper voice actor back for every current crossover he appears in while Kojima originally got rid of him for MGS5. Finally, they were supposed to appear at E3 this year but pushed back to TGS so you may in fact get a lot more news from them than you expect at the very end of this month. They already released 2 collections and just trademarked the GBA games to come back. On top of all that, they DO still make video games but people refuse to acknowledge it and make pachinko jokes.

I love the last few episodes, but Castlevania was Isaac's show at this point. Sometimes when you write a story a character just comes to life. It was great and surprising to see Isaac's journey.
