While it's pretty ridiculous, I can't imagine how you could more effectively convey their love and dedication to their king, and the ecstasy they feel in saving him and being a part of him. A lot of the ants actions and motivations don't make sense if they don't love and adore him THIS much. It also is a way to show how deep a chimera ant's programming is.
