I just noticed that when Toph was about to ask who Jeong Jeong is, she says "Nevermind, if it's important I'll find out" & then a couple episodes later they actually do meet 😂

Rewatching for the Nth time, and while Combustion Man showing up is convenient to advance the plot, it's a really nice touch that it's not just the "stage play" of Zuko saving them from the big bad. From their perspective they see him struggling a bit and then getting blown off the cliff. They don't even see he survived on the vine until after Combustion Man implodes. He didn't do something amazing and heroic to save them - he was simply there trying no matter what. Sokka saves the day, and so it's not like they owe Zuko their lives per se. They have to make a genuine choice to accept him based on seeing him put himself out there. It's subtle, but keeps the drama through the final scene with Katara better than if he had just saved them. OTOH what WOULD that conversation between Toph and Zuko been like if he hadn't burned her. I can't help wondering other ways they could have written this one after seeing it so many times.

Because it was still during the era when people weren't over critical about what kids and teens could watch. Television standards have changed MAJORLY since then and most cartoons (with few exceptions) just dumb down everything without having a point.

It always annoyed me when Katara was talking to him about ending his destiny. I'm pretty sure they are both matched in strengths, the only way Katara could completely end him would be if it was a full moon giving her the ability to bloodbend.

one thing i caught that i thought was a nice touch was that the metal rotating doors protecting the exposed part of the temple don't match with the rest of the temple, if i were to guess, this air temple was probably the last one to be attacked since its so well hidden and the doors were a last minute addition to safeguard against the firebenders

If it seemed like the climax of the combustion man fight was rushed, it was. Apparently the fight was suppose to be longer but production ran out of time. Awesome save by Sokka though. Boomerang!!!

Oh dang. That is an interesting tidbit I didnt know! Lol thats a lot like how Harrison Ford skipped the sword fight scene and just shot the big dude in... temple of doom? I dont remember 100%. haha anyway he had to use the bathroom apparently and skipped the whole fight during that take by shooting his gun but it made so much sense they kept it in xD Always love learning interesting facts about why some things happen in shows! You know, this episode reflects modern society a bit. A lot of people making judgements based on their emotions, and then someone reasonable comes up and speaks logically without the emotions, and they get attacked as "defending" someone when all they're doing is pointing out the facts. I mean, it's a human flaw, becoming overly emotional and judgmental, so of course it would reflect reality on some level, but it's still interesting to see.
