Kinda hard to say never when he laid siege to Ba Sing Se. He lost his son and his position as the next firelord along with his father at the same time. He hit rock bottom a lot harder than Zuko, but he changed after that and most likely lost interest in war and violence

I didn't see anyone mention it. Lunar eclipses actually do to water benders what solar eclipses do to fire benders. Due to them drawing power from the sun and moon respectively.

Did Uncle Iroh know about the day of black sun? How interesting that a guy with powerful firebending was working out and getting buff, breaking out on the one day when being a powerful firebender would mean jack squat.

Kinda crazy to think about when you consider almost nobody in the fire nation knew about the weakness of a solar eclipse judging by how Azula was surprised by the plan and some firebender soldiers still believed they could bend during the eclipse. Iroh must have known about it for the entirety of the series (in-universe at least). Really displays that present day Iroh was NEVER on the Fire Nation's side when it came to the war.
