This is a story of parallels. Iroh and Zuko -- the elder siblings who carry the burden of responsibility. Ozai and Azula -- the younger siblings, selfish and power-hungry. Aang and Zuko -- the lost "princes" who must redeem themselves. And there are other, more profound parallels which will surface before the story is done. It's really quite a complex tapestry.

I love the parallels in this episode, one I noticed no one mention is the parallel between Katara and her dad and Zuko and his. Katara had a heartwarming Reunion with her dad Hakoda, where as Zuko's reunion with Ozai felt more like a soldier reporting to his superior.

Actually, based on the legends they heard of the flying airbenders at the northern air temple, and what we learned from Legend of Korra, "Let go of your earthly tether. Enter the void. Empty and become wind." - Zaheer Since Aang already had to do this to control the avatar state, he should have been able to fly without the glider, or the avatar state, just like Zaheer. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, this never happened... Edit: After re-watching the 10th ep, I see they did explain the reason. Apparently, the lightning strike locked his 7th chakra. At least, we have the reason why. I guess that's something.
