Just one thing that seems to be forgotten a lot is that not everyone is a bender in this world. All those guys with hammers were not, their purpose was manning the catapults cause if they were firebenders they'd serve better purpose on the front lines

I quit this show in Book 1 because Aang was such an unbearably annoying character, but trust me this show gets REALLY GOOD in Book 2. Book 3 is simply perfection.

Just to clarify, Fire Nation soldiers don’t all firebend. In fact, it appears a good majority are non-benders with weapons. At the very least least half.
