Angel

my favorite time has come!

NecDW4

I like how Kyotaro got the same haircut as Yamada's manager.

ElswSwine68031

Nah I feel like he did try to get with her but since she said no and he’s graduating he decided to finally give up and at the very end he tried helping them for once instead of getting in the way

sadaholic

god DAMN the whole speech thing had me sobbing. the notion that ichikawa loves himself and trusts himself to do things that he once thought impossible was so god damn BEAUTIFUL!!!!

jpizzle

Fun fact of the episode: Kohana Lam, the singer of both EDs for the dangers in my heart voiced the hair stylist

Zach

I havent read the manga so im not entirely sure. But im pretty sure this is how it was Senior guy has liked yamada for a while. Hes graduating and this is his last chance. He decides to confess thinking it probably wont work but figured hed try, since hes seen the 2 mcs together a lot. He couldve mentioned why he actually stopped playing soccer during the confession but he didnt. Because he wanted yamada to like the real him like she does for ichikawa. And not for sympathy. He respects her seemingly. He decides to say a somewhat hurtful lie to see how she feels in the end. Wasnt surprised when she saw through it. He decided to be the bad guy to make them come closer in the end. He was fine confessing with ichikawa there because he figured she liked him. Im not sure what his motivation was to help them but he did try to get them closer.

chaosdreamer

I agree with Sheera. I think the Pick-up Artist upperclassman went there to confess because it was his last chance since he was graduating from junior high. I think the "he gave me your phone number" was to stir things up with a little bit of pettiness but when Yamada didn't fall for it, his glance at Ichikawa was his truly admitting defeat. Also, I love how they reveal and show Ichikawa working through his low self-esteem and social anxiety in this series. As much as the "Chad" version of him at the speech gets a chuckle out of me, that talk he gives himself and the improvised part of the speech, which is really also a talk he is giving himself, makes me tear up.

jpizzle

After watching your reactions, you’re right Roshi. Senpai pick up artist had to shoot his shot to get it out of his system. When she turned him down he understood that she likes Ichikawa. So he said that lie so he could burn all bridges to her and help them get closer. It was respect he showed for Ichikawa.

Palbuddy

Nah that senpai creep nigga cool ash

J Man

Kana Ichikawa became a star this season. Definitely best girl

billmunny

Probably one of the most pivotal moments so far. Rarely get chills but seeing him deliver that speech was powerful. There is a difference between being brazen and foolhardy and real courage. True courage is acknowledging you are afraid but still choosing to face your fears. The anime has been phenomenal at showing ichikawa's growth that many of us can relate to and maybe even inspires us to develop some courage.

Matt Murphy

im as white as can be but ive been told wax and hair spray is mostly the same thing.

BornUnMotivated

I think yall were spot on at the end that it was both of your points, love hearing yall explain your thoughts too. This show is great

The senpai guy already knew he lost. We can tell from his friend saying it’s just an “empty ritual” and especially from him saying “my graduation is over” after being rejected. He was really just trying to get it off his chest. The lie at the end is up for interpretation, but it was most likely to give Yamada up completely to Ichikawa, since he knew she would catch the lie. The look he gives Ichikawa at the end is him saying “it’s all you now” and that’s why he’s confused when Ichikawa doesn’t make his move once they’re alone.

Devin B

Ichikawa really took believe in the me that believes in you to heart, that was an epic moment he had with his alter ego.

Farquad

"My hands are full, so I cannot hold anything else" is the line that made this my favourite episode in the entire series. Also regarding Senpai Pick Up Artist, I think he was trying to help, cause he knew from the moment he saw Yamada took Kyo away from him, he knew that he stood no chance, but he still had feelings for Yamada. That last lie he left was to give Yamada and Kyo's relationship a little nudge, his lie painted himself as the "bad guy", that way Yamada can easily move on from breaking his heart as she was crying when she rejected him. At least that's my interpretation of that last lie he left.

Arima Kana

If I were senpai, I would have rape yamada in front of kyo. And take naked pictures of yamada to threaten her to come to library and have sex everyday.

LordDharak

Top 5 episode

lyssa

I really wish the hair cut showed both of his eyes

Martini

another banger episode next week lets gooooo we only go up from here

lomez

You know, sis could have just sent a photo of the speech.

lomez

Ichikawa using his hair as a weapon is yet another Baki reference.

Mollywopper

Im 100% with roshi. Pickup dude isn't dumb he already knew he lost a couple episodes ago when yamada grabbed kyos hand and ran away. If it really was just a last-ditch effort to try and get her he would have done it anywhere, but he made a point to have the convo right next to kyo. He also lied knowing it would make yamada angry at him. Whether he did it to make her feel less bad for having to turn him down or he did it to burn bridges and admit defeat im not sure. maybe a little of both. But he definitely went there knowing he would get rejected and that it would hopefully bring kyo and yamada closer. Not saying he's a good guy cuz of all the scummy shit he's been doing all series, but for whatever reason he actually wanted to help them on his way out the door.

Mollywopper

exactly. Ol girl he rejected knew what was happening from the jump.

nicci

Sheera I thought you said these people were domesticated?....

chaosdreamer

I love that the ED starts with that shot of little Kana with baby Kyotaro. ❤️

Taiwo Aileru

Sheera is a bit right as he it was a final confirmation of her feelings, but he already knew Ana liked Ichikawa, he said that spring break sentence at the end because he doesn't want sympathy to be wasted on him whilst she's with ichikawa

Ethan Castillo

brother in christ why do u choose the words you choose that cause nothing but sadness for you that prayer may have a hard time cleansing

Kurumi

sheera misreading like yea he was scumy in the beginning only because he saw how ichikawa was and pride wouldn't let him lose to someone like that.. but like Roshi saod dude's been watching the two of them slowly grow and he was finally truly impressed by ichikawa after the speech. In his own he respected him and did him a solid before he left

AnnaSama

Nah Roshi... boy did not expect to get turned down. He was salty, admitting defeat. He was never trying to help them.

Drake Rage

Roshi is absolutely right, he literally said he was going to do this "Empty Ritual," which was to confess to Yamada who he genuinely likes, now that he has graduated, but he knows she will say no because he knows she likes Ichikawa. He lied to Yamada about Ichikawa giving him her number to burn down his own bridges with Yamada. He then looked at Ichikawa with a smile before leaving the room, I think he was mentally saying "You got this" to Ichikawa, lol. The dude was annoying but he definitely was never a "piece of garbage" like Sheera called him. He simply tried his best to try to get closer with Yamada, who he really liked, but he never actually did anything malicious.

Chelle

He made a really bad first impression and that sticks in people’s minds lol

JohnnySmoke

Any chance we get an Ultraman: Rising reaction 🗿 its wholesome af I swear🗿

lyssa

Not really but hey maybe we’re watching a different show

wavyesper

Roshi my guy you are on point with these reactions 👏

Arkan Matlub

Wait you don't know what wax is? Is that not a thing in your states or? Genuinely curios. It's basically a styling tool for hair. Like Sheera said, gel but slightly more able to "harden" and style it

General Grevious

I have finally caught up to this masterpiece

melorasta420

melorasta420

Yall Manga reader's do! Just because you don't like it doesn't mean other people wouldn't either 🤔

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

Yes, he was trying to help, but he was still a bit of a prick up until then

Argo TheSlicer

he wanted her but was okay if she got with a decent guy. ive been in the same shoes as pick up artist senpai im just not a pick up artist

Ayers01

I know it was for drama and tension, but couldn't the sister just took picture of the speech and sent it to Ichikawa?

Mu Nanyo

When we first see the dude he was being pushy with trying to get her details. Then he also tried gaslighting ichikawa into giving him the details. Not necessarily “garbage” but in the scope of the show hes at least trash for that. Its that nanpa pushy style flirting in japan
