Most petty father on Earth

Comments

Cheesecake

Glad you remembered to do this episode otherwise we would have to riot

J Man

It's funny how the father looks younger than his old ass son in law once both were of old age

HaNo0onat

Literally the most petty

CleoKujo

Ohh I was confused by the caption because I didn’t watch this ep I just went straight to 6

Ruin

From this point on the show is in full gear 😂😂 it’s going to get crazy

Farquad

Judging by Cheng's happy demeanour in this ep, this event likely took place before the earthquake arc.

HaNo0onat

I have never read the message at the end before but I did it this time and it’s broke me

User100

I never saw that ending part with the photos before, thanks for watching!!

RBGTalk

what even is the point of marriage at that age lmao

Anon7524

Glad to see Lupo wiping their eyes at the end😭

mykanike

Lupa fighting for his life during this show. Can't say I was any better

Hasnain Khan

Yehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

J Man

I just noticed that the father in law sifu speaks in a different dialect than Mandarin. I only say that because I can't understand any words he's saying compared to anyone else (growing up half black half Chinese, I grew up learning Mandarin from my teochew Chinese mom). His dialect sounds a bit canto (?), just because it has those goofy tones.

Meet the Parents - The Gung Fu Edition

ZSan

Honestly though, this father might be one of the worst fathers in animation. He had the couple use up the entirety of their youth and adult years on trying to earn his approval for marriage. What a waste.

twinuzis

lupa at the end😭😭

gaby

lupa i get you i cried too...

WorldWideLove2000

The father is the worst tbh. And yeah, those messages at the end made me cry too 😭

Clrissa young

5.5 probably would've been better after 2 or 3, cause it's relevant to the plot but not what happened rime wise with the plot

Kami_Psy

Lmao bro gatekeeping his daughter for like 50 years

zacharie garondo

Wait they had Nokia fifty years ago ? In which years is happening the anime v

p.m

Yeah the Sifu is speaking Cantonese. They seem to have people with different dialect voice for the show. Last episode the client mum has a bit of a China countryside accent which is cool as it fits the story.

Sham3ful

Watching the last two episodes back to back was not smart of me cause god that was depressing

Reckless Company

Father was standing on business for 50 years and then is like Bet you got it lol

J Man

So true, he beat the age out of him. Ironically he's a Sifu, and in Sifu the game you can get the age beaten out of you.

J Man

Being half black, Cantonese always confused me. Like why is there this different language, with twice the words due to there being 9 tones as opposed to the Mandarin 5. And 85% of the words are completely different. I always wondered how there are so many people who can speak both easily (and I would notably see that when my mom would take me with her when she played mahjong with the aunties). My mom in particular knows Mandarin, Fuzhou, Teochew, and a little bit of Hakka. I applaud those who seamlessly pick up multiple different Chinese languages

J Man

The alternative ending theme really helped make the ending photos of people keeping memories through photos really helped add emotion to the credits of this episode. You can even tell that it helped get the scene to hit Lupa harder

J Man

You're right about that. But I do see the timing, as the starting next arc includes Cheng Xiaoshi (and Qiao Ling) getting a new "power" that carries him throughout this Season as well as heavily in Season 2. I unfortunately watched 5.5 after I finished this season and was confused at who this Siwen Sifu guy was and why he was so important to Xiaoshi outta nowhere. What's ironic is most of Season 1 is standalone episodic, while this OVA side story ends up influencing the rest of the story from this point forward because of the introduction of Gung Fu as an important aspect of the series

J Man

Cheng Xiaoshi also literally tried to grab Sifu by the nuts, only to get two pieced by a Shining Finger and Burning finger. Loved Roshi dropping the G Gundam reference. Best underrated Gundam (because it's more Dragon Ball than Gundam)

Olpop

A fuckin flashbang in the hand was hilarious😂😂😂 nice one Sheera

Jonathan Sessoms

Welp I forgot this is connected to the other episodes especially the key words that was said by Qiao but not trying to spoil it they didn’t catch it cause how wholesome this show can be welp it almost time almost time indeed lol

Shiroja

I can explain why he approved so this is cannon, the dad was tired of having to stand around all day waiting for this old man to walk up all those dam stairs. The dad just did not want to wait around in the sun all day. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

JacksOnion Lee

But Cantonese is the most popular dialect tho.(ion count Mandarin as one cuz it's the "main" language)

Clinton Vance

“That’s a diabolical way to eat a popsicle” Sheera 🤣

Holly Mai9

This episode is based on a true story.

Derek Sanders

I don’t think the father was that bad. He said “my grandchildren can even beat me” meaning he has a relationship with his grandchildren and she’s still there next to him so she isn’t banished. He seemed to even stop looking for other people and kept giving him a chance for 50 years. I’m pretty sure he gave in because he saw even if he is literally physically incapable of winning he’ll keep trying till he old. Actually very wholesome

yoongi

yeah that guy should've just said married her period. he just wanted it that way but yeah lupa i teared up too at the end..totally off guard of me

…..some lessons are learned too late. I’ve just turned 30 this past April of 2024 and I have always lived my life in the moment. Focused on the present; never sparing a thought for the future. Because of this I’ve taken very few pictures…..watching this has made me wish I’d taken more. Time marching on without us bringing change whether we want it or not. After 30 years of living I’ve lost 3/4 of my grandparents, my father, and 2 of my uncles on my dad’s side, 2 dogs, and a few friends. And I don’t own a single photo of any of them. ….and I starting to forget what their faces looked like…..and that terrifies me.

Holly Mai9

I can't remember where I read it but I recall it saying how it was based on a true story about a man who spent years trying to get the approval of the father of the woman he loved & had children with.

ViralCorgi

So there's been more murders after Emma? Feel like we just skipped right over that part lol

NovaVortex

Yea... That Ed for the episode was really awesome.

TheDroppedFry

They will be with you regardless of photos or not. People in the 1500s had no photos, but I've no doubt they cherished one another. Forgetting isn't a terrible thing, though it most certainly isn't desirable, it's the natural course of one's life. You and they will be in each other's thoughts and hearts beyond eternity and time. Never forget that.

danial

If a show can make lupa cry, that means the show is good

J Man

Father in law also approved of the other guy because he came from a martial arts family, while Si Wen was a city kid. Dad so old school he's speaking in a completely different language than Si Wen (as another commentor noted, Ou Yang's dad is speaking in Cantonese. I noticed his language was different because I grew up learning Mandarin and I couldn't understand a word this old Sifu was saying)

Nicole Guerrero

dad was definitely petty af and the ending was really sweet, showing people's photographs

Juancina

Seeing Lupa crying and those messages made me wanna tear up too ong. I just dont know why i cant JJSJSJ
