Welp we made it to the moment this show became too real, well next episode will be even more emotional šŸ˜

Mari

Btw Sheera is correct, that girl was going to die regardless

jared zavala

have tissue ready for next episode

itsfidy

This earthquake was a MAJOR event in China, it is known by everyone over there. The equivalent to like the USA would be if they went back in time, everyone was speaking in a New York accent, and then they revealed the date was 9/11/2001. For Context on the damage: Over 69,000 people lost their lives in the quake, including 68,636 in Sichuan province. 374,176 were reported injured, with 18,222 listed as missing as of July 2008 and the earthquake left at least 4.8 million people homeless

David Wilson

Undercover Brother movie reaction??

J Man

This is exactly like in episode 2 of Loki. Where Loki talked about how you can't change the timeline if certain big events happen guaranteed. Like how Loki was tearing up all those stores and messing with the animals, but no butterfly effect because the volcano is still gonna blow regardless. Winning basketball ain't gonna stop no earthquake

Jonathan Sessoms

This had me in my feelings thinking of my mom who pass so if I gotten a chance to change it idk I would hopefully it wonā€™t affect the timeline so badly. Itā€™s hard to go forward when your parent pass but still great episode

D

The thing we also have to remember about xiaoshi is that he's not only feeling his emotions. it's not only just that he wants to save them or whatever, the person he's possessing wants that too

Azusa Rin

I donā€™t think thatā€™s correct. He was told not to look at the phone in the first episode because the message was supposed to go unnoticed and unread. Because he read it, he had an entire conversation and told the mom she missed her. That led to the mom coming and dropping off food. The father even said the mom did those things because of her message. Afterwards, the girl read the entire conversation and in doing so decided to go meet her parents at the station because they had been in the city. If the message was never read, the conversation never would have happened and the parents never would have gone to her house and she never would have gone to go see them.

Butthead faxe

exactly like cheng js found out they're all gonna die but the little boy hes possessing ALSO just found out and wants to save his loved ones that's why it's so hard for him to just leave

Osiris Cage

Btw let the anime confirm it if she was gonna die regardless or not

Bria A.

The only thing I know about this show is this episode, and apparently thereā€™s a theory that they muted all the guyā€™s final words to his loved ones so that the real-life survivors of this tragedy could watch it and substitute their own last words in. šŸ„²

dawn

this is a fucked power/ability to have imo bc being able to go in the past but not save your/other peoples loved ones (basically cant change nothing without consequences) like yea you could say what you always wanted to say to them but knowing their still gonna die at the end of the day is terrible

Roshiiii stop leaving lupa hanging in the intros šŸ˜

itsfidy

yes actually, i mean the term was used before but the 2008 earthquake was the one that sorta popularized its usage

Ruin

Sheera has it wrong he in fact did mess up the passed by sending the text which got the girl killed. She wouldnā€™t have gone there and ran into the guy if that didnā€™t happen.

Hasnain Khan

Yehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Emily Cox

The fact is lu is kinda an asshole for even letting cheng dp this mission. It's fucked and lu is an asshole lmao

Mari

I donā€™t believe Lu would had just set back and let Cheng change something without saying anything to him, definitely if it was going to get someone killed unless they were already going to die anyway which we see now this episode. Lu wasnā€™t going to say anything to Cheng if he didnā€™t figure it out by himself that those people died. I think thatā€™s exactly what he did in the first episode by not telling Cheng about the girl future because Cheng would have probably tried to change her future and make sure she didnā€™t die. Thatā€™s what I believe šŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™‚ļø

D

exactly! I imagine it'd be difficult for anyone to just be objective and leave, so (in addition to the two abilities) it being a two person job makes sense

D

i think it's implied that she would've probably killed herself instead? like you said, guang didn't say anything to xiaoshi, plus, after coming home from being fired she literally looked like life was over for her (and the news report listed 'possible suicide' as well so that could've been a hint to that as well)

Olpop

Does anyone know where to watch with the original language ? Can only find English dub on Crunchyroll.

NotReallyZekai

Wow very interesting this show incorporated an actual real event into the story, the 2008 earthquake in China. I remember vividly because my grandfather was in that exact location in Sichuan when it happened. I remember my mom and I sitting on the bus, we were in a different city in Shenzhen, her receiving a phone call and talking loudly and crying after hearing what happened. Luckily, my grandfather got out of the building right before it collapsed. Then ads and news covered it 24/7 day after day, rescue workers, and average citizens helping out with the rescue mission. I didn't know it at the time cuz I was young, but it turned out to be one of the most sentimental events in China.

ZSan

Save them people my guy. I believe in you pal.

I'm sorry sheera, but roshi is on the money with this. Emma looked at the text message cheng xiaoshi sent (which was her own feelings), she got motivated to go to them.

2024-05-31 02:35:13 Sheera's theory of Emma being destined is solid; but it's probably not right. Emma's mom would have never delivered the egg rolls and get Emma out of her bedroom if not for Xiaoshi sending that I miss You text (which Roshi was right about). Xiaoshi is definitely the reason for the "way" she died and Lu Guang can't know because he can only see within the 12 hour window of the photo in the past. Their powers only work in the past, not the future. Where Sheera might be onto something is the reporter mentioned "we haven't ruled out [self-deletion]". What if the text wasn't sent, and yes even though a blonde hair murder was implied, what if she just off'd herself at her apartment out of depression? We won't know because Lu Guang's cognitive abilities only work in the scope of the photo (but at the same time, what about a photo taken an hour ago? can he see the future then? But Emma's photo was well over 24 hours before because it was her most recent, we watched the full 12 hour scope, and over another 12 passed to get the CFO fired)

Emma's parents traveled to the city that she was in because of the message that he sent to them as Emma. They were at the station on their way back to the where they live (assuming the countryside) when Emma tried to stop them from leaving, and bumped into mystery dude.

WorldWideLove2000

So I have a few things to say. Lu Guang knew what the important node was the entire time, but said nothing to Cheng Xaioshi. He knew what the date was and how it all would end, and knew about the situation with Cheng's parents, and yet he still took on the job. He's a jerk for doing that imo. It just shows that Cheng Xaioshi's emotional well-being is not that important to him. He literally could have just told the client that they couldn't do that specific job. No one's forcing them to take on jobs. Secondly, in the last episode, Lu Guang made it sound like it was such a big deal to not change anything about the game when all along he knew none of it mattered. So him lecturing Cheng Xaioshi about changing the game was completely unnecessary. All it did was show that Lu Guang withholds important information, then has something he can just hold over him as a show of power. Again, he's being a jerk. In regards to Lu Guang withholding information, that shouldn't even have to be a discussion. Lu Guang is the man in the chair while Cheng Xaioshi is out on the field. They should both always be on the same page. Cheng Xaioshi is too kind and trusting, so he just goes along with whatever and trusts that Lu Guang always has things under control. But both of them should always know everything there is to know about each case. The theory that Lu Guang doesn't tell him things in order to keep Cheng from getting attached is a little understandable, but also doesn't make things any better. Like I said earlier, they could just avoid cases that end terribly. I would elaborate more on that but can't due to spoilers lol. I always think it's odd how calm and nonchalant Lu Guang is, while Cheng Xaioshi is having to suffer from being all of these other people. He's not just showing up and watching these lives. He's living them. He's becoming these people. One of the soundtracks later in the season really portrays what Cheng has to go through. I can't wait to get to that! I wish I could go on but it would just end up being spoilers. I've watched both seasons twice already so I have so much to talk about šŸ˜

J Man

I agree. It's like Loki episode 2 where if you rob a bank, kill someone, or chop a tree, it don't matter if a natural disaster is happening soon, everyone dies. Lu Guang quickly accepted the job because he knew the node was secure and Xiaoshi couldn't ruin it no matter what he did, as long as he doesn't have time to screw up the destruction event. Yes, he was manipulating him, but Xiaoshi needs to be manipulated with how empathetic he is. Xiaoshi only found out too just because he wanted to stuff his belly with nice home cooked Chinese food. Ey, I'd be tempted to stay with that nice looking ginger boiled fish and soy sauce chicken. Lu Guang wanted Cheng Xiaoshi to tap out before

J Man

Being half-black, half-chinese, these foods they be showing each episode are a good throwback for me to my mom's home cooking. I still cook Chinese dishes regularly, but not as regular as the full tables mah mom be puttin out every night.

WorldWideLove2000

I see what you're saying, but since Lu Guang knows how Cheng is, he shouldn't even take on jobs like this. They shouldn't be doing any of this period. I'm just gonna say, I don't vibe with Lu Guang on a lot of stuff. Even during my first watch, I didn't like a lot of things. šŸ˜… I don't know how far into the series you are, but all I'm saying is, there's so much more going on and I wish I could talk about it but I can't yet lol.

Clrissa young

When Cheng sent the message it was within the 12 hr that Lu could see but he either didn't see that he sent it cause he was asleep or because it was new thing completely since he did keep telling him to ignore the phone. (Or Lu saw and just didn't say anything since he wouldnt know the outcome of the txt anyway) So when Emma's parents came and when Emma died that was outside of the 12 hr mark, Lu wouldn't know that happened. Looking at the news could've been a coincidence since the company itself was exposed and Emma worked for them or he does it after every mission but tells Cheng not to cause he knows how he might get. .

Clrissa young

Lu is more level headed and cold compared to Cheng so I wouldn't be surprised if he did check for updates after just to keep track of things and what the overall outcome is. He does tell Cheng the rules frequently

2024-06-19 00:29:08 Yes Lu knows the outcome of what is going to happen and how it may impact Cheng if Cheng doesn't just do the job and get out. I think he made the decision because he knows the outcome and because he can give the client closure that he unfortunately can't give Cheng. That doesn't mean that he doesn't care about Cheng's feelings in this case, it just means he hoped for the best while helping the only way he knew he could. As far as the lecturing he does during the game, it makes total sense. If it is normal to caution Cheng about changes to the past wouldn't it be even more suspicious if Lu said nothing and just let Cheng do whatever. He's acting as normal as possible. Plus the rules are still the rules when it comes to what they are doing so if he gives him free range to do whatever without correcting and reminding him, then Cheng will continue to do the same in the future as if the rules don't matter. Even though he obviously does act like that a little now lol. I personally don't think Lu is a jerk. His character is calm and collected in order to balance out the fact that Cheng is emotional. But that doesn't mean that Lu doesn't feel things. He just might not be the emotional type, or because this is a business he has to treat it as such. Again none of this would ever work if they were equally affected and responded the same way to things. And as far as why they take all kinds of jobs, even those that don't end happily, I see it as the jobs are not about them. It's about the client and the events that happen and how they have a desire to help them. Because if they didn't it would be like Roshi said, they could use their abilities for their own personal gains but instead they choose to help others. A lot of people, myself included at times, talk about Lu knowing how Cheng is and should do things based on that but I think Lu gives him the benefit of the doubt. He trusts and believes in Cheng to do the right thing because he does know him and even though he can get emotional, that won't stop him from getting the job done.

@9:16 - I like how Cheng credits cartoons for his basketball skills. In the awful Bilibi subtitles that Crunchyroll uses, he credits watching a video on Bilibili for his basketball skills. It felt like an awkward self-insert added by the translator, and it didn't match the dialogue.

Sheera got the end of episode 1 wrong. Emma's parents only came by because of the text he sent. They only came by because they saw message from their daughter saying she missed them. If that didn't happen, Emma wouldnt have needed to go to the train station and bump into the killer.

Some of yall are cooking with your theories and are on the right track, won't say who. The great thing about this show is alot of things are implied and showed not told. It naturally assumes that the audience is intelligent, which is why I really wanted yall to watch it. Can't wait for future episodes!
