going back to the first three episodes after watching both seasons will legitimately give you whiplash. the show’s all about the two growing. of course theres a LOT of cringe in the show, but it’s never in a bad way imo. it’s in a funny and intentional way

You should definitely catch up, when Ichikawa establishes what he's actually feeling the plot feels like it's going in a better direction. I had to get used to him in the beginning but his development is top tier.

I get that Yamada's parents treating her everytime she quits something could encourage her to do better next time but my first thought was that it would promote her to quit something without giving it a fair try.

The alter ego is the protagonist of the romance manga Yamada shared with him, it’s just a manifestation of his inner confident self. It’s because he sees the character of the romance manga as the type of guy Yamada likes (and surprise surprise the character is basically just him lmao).

They gave her food to make her feel better about not succeeding. They knew she liked it so it was a comfort. And if she succeeded or whatever they probably would have treated her then too. You shouldn’t only do nice things for your child when they’re successful

I don't think I've ever seen representation of puberty like this in anime, in the way that they're actually discussing the changes and allowing the main characters slowly discover their own feelings. Because (despite Yamada's appearance) they're still teens, and being a teen with feelings can be awkward. I like that this show is not shying away from that.

I agree you don't only do nice things for your kid if they're successful but imo you shouldn't do nice things often if they're unsuccessful. I'm trying to look at it from a kid's perspective but if I got positive reinforcement after failing something I wouldn't feel as motivated to do better because you're still get something in the end either way.

Can't wait to meet Yamada's dad. I know there's this psychological thing where people have an attraction toward others who have qualities of their parents. So I'm kinda happy they're having that show by Yamada's dad having Ichikawa's qualities just by looks alone. Her dad must be socially awkward asf which is why she can be so comfortable and forward with Ichikawa. Having dealt with her awkward dad, she naturally figured out ways of approaching Ichikawa since they're like .. mentally similar lol. At least that's how I'm seeing it.

I never said anything about punishing your child, just not to reward them as much if they quit something quickly. If they joined something and they actually liked it but say they lost a match or competition, I would reward them as a way of saying their efforts weren't in vain.
