Killua X

☹️ I deal with it...used to take medication for it. And I hope you drop the notion that people are upset with you if you miss something. I always thought people enjoyed reactions because they just want to see someone cool experience something for the first time that you love, like relive your first experience with them. When people point out things that you might've missed I always thought we were just filling you in so that you could appreciate the anime better and so that you'll better understand the events to come; not like we're calling you out or anything. Your reviews and analysis are great but it's not an exam (like the Hunter exam, get it 😂). Always love to hear your thoughts but don't expect you to know this stuff like the back of your hand. When I first started watching your reactions I was intrigued by your attention to detail, but I stayed for your genuine, fun, emotional reactions to great moments in the animes. And btw, you look straight af (not crooked af). haha love the Flashpoint reference.

I think almost every person I have seen has been confused when Hisoka changed the fortune. I do get why since it has been more than 20 episodes since Hisoka showed that ability against Kastro. It just a pleasant surprise for me to see someone say it was so obvious.

Christian

En is what nobunaga and killua’s grandpa used to scan an area. That is a simplified explanation.

Christopher Rivera

The narrator meant "what does it mean" as in "what will happen as a result of Hisoka changing it" or "what is Hisoka's plan by changing the fortune the way he did?" For example, why didn't he mind that it was revealed the chain user received secrets from him? That's the kind of thought the narrator was suggesting and leaving the audience with. It's just an indirect form of communication that is also highly context-specific. From what I've read, in Erin Meyer's Culture Map, this seems to be a strong culturally influenced tendency in Japan's communication style, which America in contrast has the lowest tendency for, in comparison, France/Southern Europe are somewhere in the middle of the two, and Northwestern Europe leaning closer to America/direct communication. Quote: “When we say that someone is a good communicator, what do we actually mean? The responses differ wildly from society to society. I compare cultures along the Communicating scale by measuring the degree to which they are high- or low-context, a metric developed by the American anthropologist Edward Hall. In low-context cultures, good communication is precise, simple, explicit, and clear. Messages are understood at face value. Repetition is appreciated for purposes of clarification, as is putting messages in writing. In high-context cultures, communication is sophisticated, nuanced, and layered. Messages are often implied but not plainly stated. Less is put in writing, more is left open to interpretation, and understanding may depend on reading between the lines." link: https://hbr.org/2014/05/navigating-the-cultural-minefield Pointing this out because there can be a lot of high-context and indirect communication, in HxH and other series. It's also something I notice in speaking Spanish or just looking up the meaning of Japanese or Chinese words. In one instance, later on (this is not a spoiler btw) a character says "you owe me one" after another character does them a favor. When I looked it up, the Japanese word being translated literally meant: "that's a loan" which was mistakenly translated as "you owe me one" when it should be the opposite: "I owe you one."

So En, basically (because I had to look it up too and it's kind of complicated), is the Nen ability to extend one's aura further than normal in a sphere shape and it allows the user to become aware if anyone enters their "sphere". Fun fact: apparently an En master can extend their En to a radius of 50 meters, but Zeno (Killua's grandfather) can extend his En to 300 meters. Btw, I think it's funny/not funny that you talked about how stressful it is to have that pressure of not missing any details and then react to two of the most complicated eps in HxH 😂. I was listening to your intro knowing all the shit that was gonna come up about the fortunes and Kurapika's chain explanation like oohh mann lol. But you handled it well, I'm kind of glad you didn't break out the notepad and start frantically trying to write down everything.

Oda Nobunaga

I have watched this show once and rewatching it with you makes me realize how much I missed. It is normal. I have seen with other reactors how people get really pissed, and in my opinion it shouldn't be that way, you need to just watch and enjoy what you're watching, then you can worry about the details later.

Christopher Rivera

It’s hilarious how reckless Hisoka is. He suggested all their fortunes be told at the risk of his ulterior motives being exposed while he’s surrounded by the Troupe just to ensure he gets to fight Chrollo asap. And all he was counting on was texture surprise and misdirection. The misdirection being that he’s given away their secrets distracting them with shock from even considering whether he’s deceiving them about being forced by a “sword of law,” or: in Machi’s case, that he used texture surprise, who’s the only one that has seen that ability after she saw his fight with Kastro.

Thought I posted this but I guess it disappeared? - So, after Kurapika says he isn't going to use the judgement chain on his friends and has no regrets regardless of what happens, Gon said "That's no fair Kurapika. You're actually putting more pressure on us this way." But on crunchyroll, and in the manga, Gon says: "That's not fair Kurapika. *The pressure of letting down a friend is worse than risking my life.*" Which I think is much better as it reflects directly on Gon and fits better with Gon's character, and how he's been fleshed out, than anyone else so far. Also, you noticed how Killua blushed at what Kurapika said. My interpretation (from arguing over it with others, repeat watches, and frequent reflection) : he's blushing because he is feeling totally unlike anything in his training/raising at home. He's developing as a person in a way contrary to his conditioning; pro-social/agreeable versus anti-social/antagonistic feelings. He's embarrassed because the kinder, humane aspects of his nature were repressed/neglected by his family so it's a continuous struggle between his family's influence and that of his friends; we tend to feel more at home with what is familiar than unfamiliar, whether or not it’s good for us or due to toxic relationships (like how Killua feels at home hitting Gon at times for no reason just a kind of expression of his affection that is learned from home - family being the model for our attachment styles with all relationships to some degree). Leorio values friendship because of the childhood friend he lost to disease when he was young, it would be a traumatizing event for most children.

Christopher Rivera

About your sister making fun of you with her friend, I tend to remember the insightful words of my role models, like La Rochefoucauld: "If we had no faults we should not take so much pleasure in noting those of others." "Our good qualities expose us more to hatred and persecution than all the ill we do." - Aphorisms like these help me make sense of other people's behavior in a way that I find useful and healthy. I'm almost never bothered by anyone insulting me, if anything it amuses me, makes me laugh, or even elicits a tiny* bit of pity from me.

Would much rather you relax enjoy the anime then stress about every detail. We're not concerned about all the little details in production either, as long as can see your face and hear your we're happy :)

IAmABacon

In terms of worrying about missing stuff - I rewatch a lot of anime, as I enjoy watching reactors; and I'm constantly finding that I miss stuff on the first watch through. Sometimes it's been 5 viewings of an episode before I notice certain things - and that's me paying really close attention on the first watch through, while not having any distractions (like ocd, etc). Hopefully knowing that it happens to everyone helps; though I know from my own anxieties that often knowing things logically doesn't help, as the anxiety is just so insistent about the opposite haha.

AwakeProductions

I love all of you so much. You’re too nice to me. Honestly, I don’t deserve you guys. ❤️

We don't care if you look straight or not or if you miss something. We just want you to enjoy the anime, remember that. Your reactions are great because you are genuine and you are so emotionally invested. I feel like i'm watching HxH for the first time again. You are amazing, try not to worry too much about the small things, i know OCD is no joke so don't worry about uploading if you are having a really bad day, we don't mind waiting. I'm sure most people here feel the same way.

Also you understand a lot of stuff other reactors miss. You rarely miss anything important really. And you look straight to me. You are doing great, just try to relax =)

Christopher Rivera

Was about to say “We care for your wellbeing as much as Hisoka does Gon’s!” But that doesn’t sound right... for some reason?? Lol

i dont normally comment on stuff but im just saying this even tho everyone else already did: i enjoy it the MOST when you are not trying hard to understand everything like a god damn dataminer. just watch the series and get sad/happy about stuff like a normal person and you are completely fine :).

Yuvitek

You don't need to analyze everything if you do not want to like Blind Wave. In fact emotional reacts like from Imon_Snow are very good. I mean, just be yourself and enjoy the show. If you being happy and enjoying the show it is the best thing to see. ^^

Cinya

To be fair to the Narrator a lot of reactors small brain Hisoka's fortune changing. Completely forgetting about Texture Surprise.

Radoras

hm, interesting....just one thing I struggle with ( & that sounds weird considering the more indirect communication in japanese) that you maybe can explain to me then is: why are some things so blatantly stated & explained down to the smallest detail over and over in some Anime (e.g. One Piece, first episodes mentioning & explaining Luffy's power several times, at least in the translation I watched) Stuff like that, but also the "omniscient narrator" spelling everything out for you like you're too stupid to think for yourself bugs me to no end, to the point where I feel like screaming at the screen "STOP EXPLAINING, I GET IT!!!" Maybe any idea why a culture with such subtle understanding is overexplaning like that sometimes? Just curios since you seem to have some knowledge on that topic^^

Radoras

yup, totally that! some every reactor has different styles, that's why everyone has his own community & not just the "best" who sucks in everone; some are more on the in-depht, analytic side, some more emotional, some just go with the reaction & forget about the audience & just let us watch them enjoy the show & explain only afterwards (& some even can't do emotional & just go to silly jokes to break the tension) we're here because we like HER way of reacting, that's the whole point :) (I'd go so far and say I prefer her reactions over Imon_Snow or others I watch only on YT because I feel she's even more invested, but just personal taste, so let's not start a fandom war^^)

Diego Zenhäusern

Exactly! To me often half of the fun is to see whether a reactor falls for the same things that I fell for the first time watching the anime xD And you shouldn't say that you're stupid for not picking up on things: Everyone focuses on different things and so you might sometimes miss things that seem obvious to a lot of other people but at other times pick up on details or parts of the story many others wouldn't notice. People just perceive things different sometimes; it's nothing about being clever or dumb!

Radoras

Sorry to hear your OCD is that bad again :/ First of all, I really appreciate all the work & effort you put in for us and how you want to make sure we're happy with it....but...if you feel like you can't do it rightnow...just don't. Walk away, relax, do something fun to calm down & give it another shot the next day, or the day after; we'd rather be worried about YOU if we don't hear anything for a while than throwing a tantrum because "WHEA ARE MA REACTIONZ!!!1" ^^' Also, I don't mind if you WANT to smoke a blunt/joint or other stuff to relax, but please don't do stuff like that just because you think you have to "medicate" yourself into reaction mood for us, EVER! Hisoka's changing up the prophecy was a pretty smart move, but also damn risky...the "sword of justice"-stuff might have hinted in some direction, but if Chrollo didn't came to that exact conclusion, they would have done in Hisoka 9v1 right there. Kinda feel bad for Leorio; he wants to help his friends, but without any Nen abilities, he's the only one who wouldn't even be a threat to any of the players involved...if anything went wrong, only thing he could do would probably just watch :'( Sorry for your Sister & her friend being like that...so many women/men are totally into some celebrities, what's different about K-Pop? I'M not into it, but it's cute to see you get so hype about it 😊

Google drive maybe ?

JD

I put my arms in the air and almost cheered when it showed them all together again with that cheerful music :D and I love when they draw Leorio with a more monkeyish appearance, like when he was joking that they should run with the money.

Anonymous

And still waiting for the google drive link lol ..

Killua X

I'm sure she'll put it up eventually. This is unlike her, probably going thru some shit 😕.
