It was this chapter/episode that made me like Reiner again. I don’t think he has any right to be in self pity but I know Reiner is not a bad guy in nature, he was just misguided by his messed up mother who used him in attempt to bring “honour” to the family and the military that brainwashed him. In fact I don’t even agree with Galliard that Reiner is just pretending to be reliable, I can see that he’s a kind and stand up big brother for these kids

- You're right, Eren is using Eren Kruger's alias. :D - Falco is such a pure, kind soul. Poor kid, though - he's trying so hard to save his friend, while also unknowingly helping a spy infiltrate his home. Plus, he probably thinks he's surprising Reiner by reuniting him with an old friend. All he does is try to help others, but everything is building up to his own actions blowing up in his face. - "There's no honor in killing innocent people." She doesn't know that they're innocent. We know they are, having spent three seasons with them, but she's never seen the island and she was raised her whole life to hate them. We can't expect them to know everything we know. If the people on Marley had the sense to put the truth together on their own, this series would be over in three episodes. It took Reiner meeting the Paradisians for himself to realize that they weren't devils. It's easy to fault Gabi for not understanding this now, but viewers who can't empathize with her POV now are not gonna have a good time later on. - When Magath was talking about a "house set for demolition, with some pillars still usable" and it being "infested with rats," he's talking about Marley's army. This will be re-visited later, so I won't say more here. - You're one of the few reactors who recognized that that was Grandpa Jeager right away. Just to clarify, it was Zeke who turned Grisha and Dina in to protect his grandparents. Grandpa Jeager may have been a coward but there's definitely sympathy to be had there. He pretty much did exactly what any other parent in the internment zone would do, and both his kids still died for it.

Thanks for helping clear those things up! Also, yes. I do try to sympathize with her because I do know that she doesn’t have the whole picture. It’s just hard sometimes when I hear her say certain things that are so clearly false or about condemning innocent people to their death. I know she doesn’t know the truth, but that doesn’t make hearing these things any easier 😭😢😅

I've always seen Reiner as an example of someone who is a hero by nature, that happened to be born in Nazi Germany. Marley, in this case, but you get the idea. In my opinion, he has every right to be pitied. As a child, he had absolutely no means to fight against his environment. What could he have done? At least he realized how wrong he was, and now he lives in constant self-loathing, because if he says anything him and his entire family will be condemned. He's one of the most sympathetic characters in the show at this point.

i've not read the manga, but this episode has done a really good job at making me wish i was watching another anime and that shit wasn't gonna hit the fan soon. was nice to see the kids happy.

highly recommend reading it after the series ends or along the way. Isayama did such a good job with his manga that on certain parts it's even better than the anime.

You keep saying "intermittent" zone instead of "internment". These are 2 different words. Also, in the first conversation Magath was actually saying that he's trying to get Marleyans to participate in the wars so that maybe the public support for them is lowered. The thing about the tamed devils that you criticized him for wasn't even being said from his own perspective...

If you continue watching my video, somewhere in the review or maybe during the reaction, I do go back and reread and analyze the scene. This is why I really appreciate it if you guys watch the whole video. ☺️ I do miss things sometimes, but usually I go back to make sure I grasp everything that I can. Edit: also thank you for bringing the mix up of words to my attention. I’ll be sure the correct that in future videos.

When considering how Gabi thinks the people on Paradis are all devils when actually they are innocent try comparing her to Eren for a moment. For a long time Eren thought that titans were the enemies of humanity and he wanted to wipe them all out. Now we know that the titans were actually Eren's people and quite often innocent victims who had been transformed against their will. For Eren to truly achieve his goal of eliminating all the titans he would need to exterminate all the Eldians in the world so no more titans could be made.

Sam

Knowing what it truly means to wipe out the titans completely can you go back and watch seasons 1 to 3 and think that what Eren wanted was right.

AwakeProductions

Yes I understand your point. It still doesn’t make it any easier to hear her say those things though. It’s still just as frustrating.

Sam

Fair enough. Some people think that Eren and Gabi are very similar. That if they'd been born in each other's place they would turn out like each other. I think there's some truth to that.

This was why we saw that incredible character development across years for Eren from wanting to exterminate every last one of them to questioning whether titans are just people in nightmares and lastly the iconic ocean episode where he referred to titans as his fellow patriot.

I loved when a piece from YOUSEEBIGGIRL played when Reiner saw Eren. It made me feel hyped and hopeful to hear Vogel im Kafig next episode. Also I'm so glad to watch your reaction to after credits scene. I was afraid you would miss it. I know I almost did.

I don't know if I'm the only one, but I don't think Gabi just wants to become the Armored Titan because she just thinks it is an honor and doesn't get the price she's paying by becoming it. I think a big chunk of her motivation is to make her family Honorary Marleyans so the'll be able to life better lives (To which extend she realizes that the title "Honorary Marleyan" still won't make them equal to real Marleyans in rights and social standing is of course debatable at this point). The reason I think so, is that Gabi specifically says to Falco: “Your brother is already inheriting the Beast! You’ll be an Honorary Marleyan!”. Instead of “That should be honor enough!” or “You’re family already has enough glory” To me this implies that she realizes that it isn’t just about the honor of becoming a Shifter Titan but also about the privileges and opportunities you and especially your family get. Don’t get me wrong: I certainly believe that she is completely brainwashed and (to a debatable extend) definitely believes it is an honor to be a Shifter Titan/ an honorary Marleyan. But I think she is also way more aware of the fact that in the long run this will only benefit her family and understands the price she is paying by becoming the Armored Titan, than one might wan’t to give her credit for. So to me this sentence makes it feel more like she’s aware of the sacrifice she’s making but is prepared to pay the price, because she thinks the outcome (a better life for her family) is worth it. And not like a completely brainwashed idiot that just believes that becoming a Shifter Titan is the biggest honor there is and that doesn’t even really get the price of becoming one.

I think being an Honourary Marleyan is fine depending on what kind of a mindset a person has attaining it. Gabi wanted to become a dog for the military for a better life and to lash out at the "island devils" and that's not appropriate. A character in Code Geass named Suzaku wanted to become an honorary Britannian to stop the war with his own hands and save his people in a less violent method, and that's respectable.
