While there is more material in the manga past where the anime ends. It does hit a natural end point. He still occasionally releases a chapter occasionally but I don’t think there has been one since 2018

I agree with your comments about Gon’s abandonment issues. In episode 1 of the 1999 version he raises a wild foxbear that’s lost its parent and he names it “Kon” ... likely because the cub reminded him of himself (would be an informative watch for episode 21 and later). There is more to that episode but I wouldn’t want to spoil or influence your opinion of it.

Love how you were almost raving out of fun after the first episode, when they announced the tournament :3 Hisoka of course dismissed and humiliated him when he gave Gon his Tag & refused taking it back, but since he wants him to grow, I think it was mainly meant as a challenge, to motivate his growth...but yeah, I totally get how he felt & that he wanted to do something to feel like he was useful & could make a difference, at least for someone. The way how they turned the "last man standing"-tournament on it's head really turned it from a combat competition to one of willpower; basically the only one who can make you loose is yourself. To play Devil's advocate here for Hanzo: he really didn't do anything out of malice, that's just how this torunament works; in the previous phase he also did what he could to avoid fighting & in the fight, the first thing he did was incapacitate Gon & ask him to surrender before doing anything else, as well as after every other step he went onward - it's nothing personal

I think you are forgetting one big thing about the Hanzo not going in to take the tag. Even if he goes in to take the tag, there is still 3 days left for him on the island because he can't finish early. He also could have been tailing them since the beginning since he entered the island first, which means he would still have a full 10 days on the island after taking the tag. He also doesn't know if anyone else is watching them, so he could end up giving away his position just to go get a tag he could take at any moment. They kind of hinted on this a couple of times, but its not just about taking the tags, but lasting the whole week. In that same vein, Killua could have gone and killed the guy following him the whole time if he wanted, but there just isn't any point since they have the full 10 days on this island regardless.

i like that tournament episode, he put gon up first vs an impossible to win knowing gon wont quit, just shows how sneaky netero is :P
