What!! I didn’t do him dirty! 😂 I hope Armstrong is nice and trustworthy, but after seeing so many anime where you never really know who they are or what their true intentions are, I try to keep my guard up. 😅

This is the first time I'm actually watching a new anime alongside with you, so this a really interesting experience. I'm on board with you not liking the cooking test. I think what bugged me, was that they all did the same thing in both of the exams, so there was no personality in the way they solved the tasks.... Oh and btw: Did you practice the intro song? Because it sounded really good already!

I watched this a couple of years ago so I've forgotten some of the details. I'd say it would be better to think of Hisoka as a serial killer who is picky about who he kills and when he kills them. A bit like a chef who is picky about the food they eat.

I've seen this trope in anime before but something you have to accept is that the exam isn't fair. People can fail one year and pass another year just because the exam was better suited to their capabilities. The first examiner said that luck is also needed to pass. Leorio got lucky because he befriended Gon and Kuripika who help him along in places perhaps even more than he helps them. The Tower of God examiner told Bam that luck was a deciding factor in an early episode.
