Of course Light is smart, but after he once almost got caught by the first L after he suspected both him & Misa, I guess he made sure to plug that hole in his plans for the future, just to have an authentic "Ghostwriter" in case someone detains them again & Kira is on leave ;P Just wonder how many candidates there were & how long it took for him to select one.

The really fucked part about this episode is that its technically revealed that Light's "I'll wife you if you do this" manipulation move was him privately asking her to not just give up the death note when he says so, but to give up her shinigami eyes which she made the deal twice over. That's why they call her a plain woman in that scene because they want to emphasize just how much Misa has sacrificed. Keep this in mind when you get confused at the very last scene of deathnote. Also trust me, this is not a spoiler and doesnt reveal anything about last scene, but will maybe blow your mind about misas character and loyal she is, as she proves by giving up death note x2 in this ep
