ArcaneAnomaly

"The traffic thing? What was so significant about it?" While the asshole was blustering and trying to blame the accident on the Elevens that he crashed into, Lelouch, calmly and seemingly bored, went up to a nearby tow truck, and hooked it on the asshole's car, causing it to get dragged down the road and destroyed. It intrigued Shirley in that, while he still seemed as lazy, careless, carefree, and unconcerned with the world as he always does, he went out of his way to help someone that was obviously getting fucked over, and then went right back to reading like nothing happened. It's quite possible that very few people even saw what he did, considering most were probably focusing on the argument, and so he never got recognized for the help he gave, nor did he want to be recognized. Being willing to unconditionally help someone, and then literally ghost the place instead of expecting anything in return, is what caught Shirley's eye.

"Why does he think Lelouch is weak?" Because(in his mind), people are weak until they prove themselves strong. Lelouch has just been dealt what's likely the first major upset in his life, and instead of bucking up and taking care of shit, he comes whining to the Emperor. (Again, this is all from Charles' point of view). Charles then tells him what HE believes is the truth: he is nothing, and has nothing, because he had previously been _given_ everything. He didn't take it for himself. He didn't prove himself worthy of it. He is simply a pampered Prince of the most powerful nation of the world, and the son of Marianne, the Empress. Charles believes you don't gain strength without struggle. Lelouch does struggle then; he struggles very hard, and he becomes very strong.

Lelouch is not like the typical hero. He will use his "allies" who are not close to him like chess pieces for his goals. A cruel world makes a cruel person. The only one he really cares about from the beginning is his sister. He has no emotional investment in the Japanese terrorist groups he's helping. Kallen activated her hidden knife because she thought Shirley saw her being a terrorist.

If you have time and the inclination you should watch the series in both sub and dub. I like certain things about both of them for each episode. They both do something a little better than the other. With the added benefit of helping you pick up on every detail.

Yeah, Lelouch is not that different from the britanians(just as CC said about his blood). You could see, that he had no problems using japanese as a bait, as a distraction, basically sending these Japanese to their death.

on point with the explanation on the Emperor's mindset! In the sub I watched, the translation was less literal; the "you are dead from the day you were born"-part was more translated as "You didn't earn anything for yourself since you were born"...not that good in japanese yet (learning the basics atm), but I often get the impression that the meaning gets hard to undestand when they translate word-by-word, or at least very metaphorical sometimes

To be honest, the reason I prefer sub is because how they convey the emotions, not because it's more understandable ^^' The problem in the second fight was a) that Cornelia seems to be simply a better strategist than Clovis, having better strategy & not falling for the traps Lelouche used to beat Clovis and b) even with Lelouche, it's still a professional army vs irregular militia troops without former training & discipline, with equal tactical minds the Britanians gonna win; so he needs a power base of his own to match her on equal terms

Oh! I didn’t even see that!! That’s so nice of him dude. See! This is why I need to watch the dub lol.

I just enjoy the sub cause of Jun's Fukayamas laugh :P
