Hi Patrons,

Next Friday is all about Gregory "Pappy" Boyington. An excellent USMC fighter ace, he commanded his so-called Black Sheep Squadron during the Second World War. Although he claimed to be the top ace of the USMC, this was never confirmed.

During his record-breaking mission he was shot down and presumed dead for over a year. He only turned up alive when Japan surrendered and American POWs were repatriated.

Quite the incredible story for sure.

Have a great week!

"Pappy" Boyington's USMC Black Sheep Squadron in the Pacific Theatre (WW2)

Gregory "Pappy" Boyington was a troubled, but excellent American combat pilot. He was a USMC fighter ace during the Second World War, and according to his own account, he was the top ace of the entire USMC. Crashed and captured by the Japanese during his record-breaking flying mission, he was presumed dead for over a year, until the war ended and he turned up in a POW camp.
