There was something interesting going on with Travis's heads on this page, where I was having a very difficult time sketching them digitally, so I gave them a shot on paper. It felt much easier to construct the head, probably because it was impossible to get them "perfect" with the rough paper and the pencil, and so I felt more at ease with my typical construction. So perhaps that's a good lesson for folks who are having an issue drawing something: try drawing it in a different medium!

How often to you use traditional media in general? Does it help with certain poses or designs often or is it a pretty rare thing?

It’s becoming more common! Traditional sketching is a great warmup tool, and it enforces patience, which is not always rewarded in digital.
