Ah, I was wondering when it was going to go up. Thank you.

Mornathel

So how much is it for James to speak at an organization? And does a homeschool group qualify?

Jason Youngberg

Awesome episode! I can see why so may people liked him.

Is it strange that Ned Kelly reminds me of Julian from Trailer Park Boys? The often-noble attitude, having to corral the idiots in his gang (i.e. Ricky), and his attempts to get back at "crooked cops" are all traits the two share. They also kind of look like each other, which I find funny.

I got a couple of good chuckles at the bank manager agreeing to help Ned & Steve - ONCE he was finished with his (weekly or monthly) bath! XD Also, Good on ya for pronouncing Jerilderie correctly! :D

I'm new at this Patreon thing, so can anyone tell me if it's okay to share this video with my friend BEFORE it's officially launched on YouTube?

ExtraCredits

Always at 10am PST, unless we're running late, in which case I'll try to give you a heads up!

ExtraCredits

He's such an interesting, complicated figure. He does some undeniably bad stuff, but he wants to see himself as a good guy, and he tries to live up to that too.

ExtraCredits

I've never watched that show, so I looked up the character and went "hey, it's my friend Rob!" I can see the Ned Kelly resemblance, though. :)

ExtraCredits

He had just come in from a days' riding so he was super dusty and I guess super cranky about being interrupted during his bath. I have to admire that gall. ;D

ExtraCredits

I am okay with that as long as it's through a private link (meaning, not shared on a Facebook post or anything like that where others could find it). Hope your friend enjoys it!

Oh, I love me some cliffhangers. And you're stuck with me for this series and the next one. >:) -Soraya

This series was very Kelly-focused, but I almost wish I had more time to go into the comedy of errors that was the police hunt for him. There was really a lot going on... including this. And the time they shot at each other, which was also referenced in this episode.

What is their £2000 heists worth in today's money?

Anonymous

Around £214 000, according to this inflation calculator: http://inflation.stephenmorley.org/

I'm loving this series so much, even looking forward to showing my parents when they come into town today. The only person besides Ned I would want to know more about is Ellen Kelly. I can't imagine being a single mother at this time and enduring everything she has only to wind up being tossed into prison. She must have been made of something special and incredibly strong.

Was there any actual good cops?

Anonymous

This is what a corrupt and incompetent police force looks like. Stories like these should be more widely circulated.

ExtraCredits

She was a really incredible woman! I wish I could have spent more time on her. At one point, if I recall correctly, some of her neighbors started gossiping and complaining about her being this rowdy single mother and how undecorous that was. She replied by organizing an even rowdier makeshift event where she basically jumped on a horse and galloped up and down the main street doing trick riding demonstrations.

ExtraCredits

There certainly were, in many areas. One of the cops Ned shot (Sgt Kennedy) was a good cop even in Ned's estimation; he said he felt sorry for shooting him, though he still felt like he needed to do so to save his own life. There were also cops involved in the searches who wanted to take a different approach and were disgusted by the cowardice or incompetence of their superiors, but they were still bound by the chain of command and could only do so much. At the end of this episode, Ned disappears for over a year because leadership of the Victoria police is briefly taken over by someone who has the idea to actually work with informants rather than persecute them, but he winds up getting displaced before his program can really get any results. And in the final episode, we will see an example of one very good cop without whom things would have played out very differently...

ExtraCredits

I feel like stories like this are circulated, but the hard part is finding a solution - and then actually making it happen.

What role did his beard play on his outlaw life?
