Surprise! Thanks to the mobile game DomiNations, we have another sponsored series coming up... and it launches tomorrow! Based on the screencap, can you guess what it's about?

As before, this sponsored mini-set will NOT interrupt your regular Extra History series. The Gracchi Brothers series will continue as normal on Saturdays! There will be two episodes in this mini-set, launching August 25 and September 1.

It's like Christmas in August!

YES!!! I've been waiting for a series dedicated to Native Americans for almost a year! Tell our generous sponsor that I'm downloading the game now.

Cool, we are getting a Native American miniseries. Woefully underrepresented in World History let alone US history and even modern day American culture. It looks a scene with Hiawatha, Jigonhsasee and Dekanawida, the Great Peacemaker. I'm guessing it will about unification of the 5 tribes of New York into Iroquois Confederacy.

I will admit, the fact that this was one of the topics they suggested played a definite role in my wanting to jump on it. Sometimes, sponsored episodes let us skip the queue a bit to cover topics that haven't otherwise wound up on our schedule.

You are more or less correct! Hiawatha will be the titular character here, but the Peacemaker and Jigonsaseh are his co-stars, and the formation of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy is the plot.

Will you be going in to deatail about the relationship between the Iroquois and Huron? I find it fascinating how most history books paint this picture of all Native American as peaceful people when in fact some tribes were quite hostile. The Iroquois annihilated a tribe because they lost a lacrosse match. Will you be mentioning how much the sport played a roll in their society?

ExtraCredits

We're only going to be talking about the formation of the Confederacy, so this one will be a story about peace. If I'd had a little more time in the episodes, I would have mentioned lacrosse in passing, but no, it doesn't come up here!

Hey Extra Credit, quick question. I just became a $10 donor and, in regards to suggesting topics for the raffle, is it just a broad idea like "Italian War of Unification" or do I have to be like, "Italian War of Unification, Garibaldi, 1870"

This is fantastic! I've always wanted my knowledge of the Iroquois to be tested.

Quick test - are replies broken? I tried answering your question 10 minutes ago but it didn't seem to post.

I love these sponsored series. It's not just that we get more Extra History, though that is of course a draw—I also like that some people are looking at this kind of thing as a viable method of marketing. If companies were willing to spend less on banner ads and more on tangential advertising, I think the world would be a better place.

I am actually a big believer in value-add types of advertising, especially for smaller scale projects, and have been known to go on rants about it... but I won't today. Suffice to say that it makes me happy, too!
