Images using this System can be Acquired with only 3 ~ 15 Minutes Exposure to Light and are Permanent. Niépce will continue to Develop the Process and, within a short Time, he will have the Required Exposure Time down to just under a Minute, making Portrait Photography Finally Practical. However, One Major Problem still Remains: the Niépce Process only Allows for a Single Image to be made…no Copies can be Produced. 1826 10th March In the Kingdom of Portugal, King John VI of Portugal Passes away at the Age of 58 inside the Bemposta Palace, Possibly from Arsenic Poisoning. He will be Remembered by Future Historians as the only King of the United Kingdoms of Portugal, Brazil, and The Algarves, which Ceased to Exist De Jure in 1822 he Remained its De Facto between 1822 and 1825, and after the Independence of Brazil under the Treaty of Rio de Janeiro of 1825, he continued to Reign as King of Portugal until his Death in 1826. Under the same Treaty, he was also the Titular Emperor of Brazil for Life, while his Son, Pedro I of Brazil, became both the De Facto and De Jure of the newly Independent Country. One of the last Representatives of Absolute Monarchy in Europe, John VI Lived during a Turbulent Period and his Reign never saw a lasting Peace. During his Period of Rule, Major Powers, Including Spain, Rome, and Great Britain continually Interfered in Portuguese Affairs. Forced to Flee across the South Atlantic to Brazil when Troops of the Emperor Napoleone I Invaded Portugal, he found himself Faced there with Liberal Revolts; he was Compelled to Return to Europe amid new Conflicts. His Marriage was no less Conflictual as his Wife, Queen Carlota Joaquina of Spain, Repeatedly Conspired against her Husband in Favour of Personal Interests or those of her Native Spain. John lost Brazil when his Son, Pedro, Declared Independence and his other Son, Miguel [later King Miguel I of Portugal] Lead a Rebellion that Sought to Depose him. Notwithstanding these Tribulations, John leaves behind a lasting Mark, Especially in Brazil, where he helped to Create Numerous Institutions and Services that Laid the Foundations for National Autonomy, and many Historians will Consider him the True Mastermind of the Modern Brazilian State. John’s Contemporaries Viewed him as a Kind and Benevolent King, although later Generations of Portuguese and Brazilians will make him the Subject of Frequent Caricature. 1836 1st January In the Spanish Empire, the of the Spanish Army Ejercito del Sur are Ordered by Queen Isabella II to March through the City of Cádiz to the City of Seville, Province of Seville. She will be Remembered by Future Historians as the Third Monarch of Brazil and the First Woman to Rule Brazil in her Own Right, and Served as the Empire’s Regent on Three Occasions. Born in Rio de Janeiro, as the Eldest Daughter of the Emperor Pedro II of Brazil and his Wife, Empress Teresa Cristina of Sicily, she was a Member of the Brazilian Branch of the House of Braganza. After the Deaths of her Two Brothers in Infancy, she became her Father’s Heir Apparent. She Married a Foreign Prince, Gaston, Count of Eu, and had Three Children with him, the Eldest of which going on to become the Emperor Pedro III upon her Death in 1921. During her Father’s Absences Abroad, Isabel Served as Regent. During her Third and Final Regency, she Ultimately Signed and Actively Promoted a Law Named “the Golden Law,” Emancipating all Slaves in Brazil. Although the Move was Broadly Popular, there was Strong Opposition to her Succession to the Throne. Her Gender, Strong Catholic Faith, and Marriage to a Foreigner were seen as Impediments against her, and the Emancipation of the Slaves Generated Dislike among Powerful Plantation Owners. In 1889, a Republican Coup d’etat was put down using Troops Loyal to the Monarchy and its Leaders were sent into Exile. 1929 9th October In the Kingdom of Serbia, a Regency is Established for Prince Peter II of Serbia Headed by Prince Paul, his First Cousin, Following the Assassination of his Father, King Alexander II of Serbia, as Alexander had Stipulated in his Will that a Council of Regents, Chaired by Prince Paul, should Govern upon his Death until Prince Peter comes of Age in 1941. 1936 28th February In the Russian SFSR, Ivan Petrovich Pavlov, the Widely ~ Known Russian Psychologist, Passes away at the Age of 86 in Leningrad. Conscious until his Final Moments, Pavlov Asks One of his Students to sit beside his Bed and Record the Circumstances of his Dying, wanting to Create Unique Evidence of Subjective Experience of this Terminal Phase of Life. He will be Remembered by Future Historians Primarily for his Work in Classical Conditioning and his Research on the Digestive System. From his Childhood Days, Pavlov Demonstrated an Intellectual Curiousity as well as an Unusual Energy Drive which he Referred to as the “Instinct for Research.” Inspired by the Progressive Ideas which Dmitry Pisarev, a Russian Literary Critic of the 1860s, and Ivan Sechenov, the Father of Russian Physiology, were Spreading, Pavlov Abandoned his Religious Career and Devoted his Life to Science. In 1870, he Enrolled in the Physics and Mathematics Department at the University of Saint Petersburg to Study Natural Science. Pavlov Won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1904, becoming the First Russian Nobel Laureate. A Survey in the Review of General Psychology, which will be Published in 2002, will Rank Pavlov as the 24th most Cited Psychologist of the 20th Century.
