This Episode has been a bit slow in coming. My Sheep extend their Greetings unto you, or at least I Think they do, but then again it's a bit tricky understanding the language of the Sheep if you're a Human.

ExtraCredits

It's the same as always! The Lies episode is always on Week 7, it's just that if the series is only four episodes long (like this one was) there's going to be two one-offs in between. Hello to the sheep!

Anonymous

Little late, but it takes time to do a long Lies episode

Anonymous

40 minutes... wow, that's dedication. More dedication than I can muster at least. I'll watch it tomorrow. :)

When will be the next Q&A?

ExtraCredits

Yeah, the interview format has been great but the fact that we're talking things out (instead of James listing things in a more straightforward way) does mean that they've gotten longer and longer. Or maybe I'm just bad at self-editing! Anyway, we're settling into the format.

ExtraCredits

*Probably* next weekend, but I (Soraya) won't be around, so it's gonna depend on how self-sufficient James and Dan are feeling.

t.

I agree Shays Rebellion and the Vermont Republic together as a one off! I'm suggesting that next time suggestions are asked for

ExtraCredits

Considering it's already on my to-do list for one-offs, I'd recommend picking something that isn't on there yet!

Porcupine

I can't wait to hear the Bronze Age's Walpole connection...

I like this interview format, allows for a lot more detail than just straightforward listing of mistakes/things left out

Um, correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that the 3/5ths compromise also applied to free people of color, not just enslaved people?

Anonymous

Its only for enslaved people. I am curious about her reasoning for not liking the compromise. The complaint about worth is the most common objection is in regards to human worth, but that tends to be a silly complaint. If it was valid, you would expect those in favor of abolition to want slaves to count as a full person and for slaveholders to want them to count for none. However its the opposite, where slaveholders really wanted the extra votes that were not theirs to give.

ExtraCredits

I'm glad! I really enjoy it too. We're going to try having me interview James for the next one.

ExtraCredits

Because slavery is a horrible blight whose grievous effects are still tearing my country apart today, and it's a travesty that at one point we enshrined an idea that largely amounted to "black people are only worth 3/5 of a person" in the foundational document of our country. It immediately highlights the hypocrisy built into the Constitution of a nation which would claim to secure freedom for its citizens while outright denying the human value of an entire group of people most in need of such protection.

Anonymous

I guess because the idea that there needed to be a compromise itself is pretty damn racist, and racism was one thing both slave states and free states could unite on. It doesn't really make it less racist that the free states were the ones who didn't want to count slaves

Bill Lemmond

Thanks, again, for filling in more details.Shays really was a sad case. I had always read that the continental army, and state militias were paid with land in the west (that Ohio River valley).
