Cornelia is just a way better pilot than Lelouch, if Lelouch had lancelot and went against Suzazuku in a Sutherland he would probably lose/draw. They stress a lot that Lelouch is a thinker not a physical person. This is why it makes sense he likes the Gawain as a knightmare because it prioritizes long ranged weaponry that allows him to stay safe* and doesn't require a lot of 'skill' per say, kind of a 'press R to win' situation. Where as the skilled pilots tend to operate knightmares with a lot of close-range ability because they can get the most out of the machines and have the physical durability to endure the aftershock, g-force and repetitive strain injury that pilots of these units are likely to experience. * = allows him to stay safe but Lelouch likes to move the king first so he often abandons this advantage to lead the charge or be a pest.

Yeah what Matthew said, Lelouch is a genius but sucks at anything physical, including piloting Knoghtmares. He has to rely on long ranged weapons because of that

He doesn't rly suck at piloting. He is just mediocre. Whilst all the other named characters he is fighting are legendary pilots like top 0.1 percentile. Especially Suzaku. But so yeah, in comparison to them, he sucks :P But yeah the show has been prefacing throughout how Suzaku and Lelouch are like the complete opposite. One is insanely skilled in anything physical while the other is insanely smart. The brains and the brawn
