some major plot lines here, westalis represents the anglo west and the east represents the fascist red block/1. reich or 3rd reich germany. It is heavily implied that this series is inspired by either pre world war 2 or the cold war given the theme relies heavily on a surveillance state and espionage. Damians father I thought was inspired by Goebbels the german propaganda minister, could also be just straight out Stalin. Anywho, Loid is basically american/british and the place they live in is either ww2 germany or communist russia.

Lmaoooo the slight shade at some manga readers. About the scene of Glooman talking about ending up as a slave in Westalis. The East and the West are on the verge of war so most likely as a result of propaganda he thinks Westalis is some horrible place where he'd end up in slavery. Anya is trying to console him by telling him Westalis is a safe place because Loid and Sylvia (The Handler) are both nice people and that's where they're from. Glooman is assuming that because Anya is telling him Westalis is a safe place that she must not actually know anything about it.
