How funny!! I love when they sneak stuff in like that. Inever heard this before.

Giorgia M

Tend to skip this on the rewatch because it’s so hard to recover from!

I have always felt this was a misstep, plotwise. It felt inorganic, like something they did just to fit the overall darkness of season 6. Anya and Xander should have been allowed to be happy.

Families like Xander's are the reason why my husband and I planned and paid for our own wedding. Not that my family was anywhere near as bad as Xander's, but argumentative, demanding, overly controlling Mother that insisted on everything being done her way being given any say in our wedding plans? Yeah, no, that would've been a recipe for disaster. I get why Xander chose to walk away in the end as well, but his timing couldn't have been worse, like dude communication skills, you're supposed to be marrying this woman and you couldn't have once expressed any of your concerns to her?

I love Andy Humberger as D'Hoffryn as well. He plays that role so well, perfect amount of levity and menace. Much better character than the obsessed stalker guy, who could detach his body parts, that he played in Angel (I've gone blank on the characters name, the one from "I fall to pieces").

We are getting down to the final episodes of the season!!! This season is such a roller coaster ...hold on tight 😎🤓😎

It’s interesting to have them grow on their own, especially for Anya, but I thought getting married seemed like a good way to show Xander’s maturity and growth after cheating on Cordy.

Phoenix Dawn

I, absolutely, hate this episode! Not that it isn’t entertaining to watch but what it represents about their relationship! It feels like it is forced drama. Like, we can never have a happy moment in the show...

Fucking Ronald 🙄.....as Liam Duke calls him and forever he shall be known by the moniker Fucking Ronald, complete with the eye roll 😂

The bit that pisses me off.. not the demon dude, angry yes, not livid, Spike being Spike.. just a 🙄 by now.. Xander doing a runner? Nearly but no.. what really f**** me off is that he just walks out and leaves Anya to go through the hell of walking up the aisle, crying her eyes out to tell everyone that the wedding is off.. and that pc of shit just leaves her to do it all, leaving her at the alter was bad but not doing the decent thing and taking some of the shit he just left her in.. for me unforgivable 😔

CeNedra

Apologies for above rant 🤣

honestly it was there from the begining-his insecurities......his initial proposal was from a place of insecurities.....then he felt the need to hide the engagement till anya told everyone without him. If you can't just tell people it's perhaps something you aren't ready for, he was just hoping he was ready for it. he felt he had to prove himself and that's no reason to marry. yes he actually loved her but still, work on yourself first

GaveUp

I find it hard to agree. There’s been setup from the early seasons around the insecurities that are shown here and it does suck but it’s not really out of character. The episode, if anything, does a good job of showing how somewhat seemingly non-important experiences at the right/wrong ages can drastically affect how a person develops in adulthood. It’s a horrible watch from a “we love these characters” perspective but it’s also way to relatable for too many people.

Xander did a terrible thing. I don’t see why it’s being excused. A good character can do a bad thing. He had a long time to not go through with things and yes he was shown his fear but geez you don’t leave someone at the alter, who does that? No excuse for that. You don’t wanna hurt her, so you leave her in what has to be one of the most embarrassing and heartbreaking situations she could fathom.

GaveUp

That probably illustrates the misconception. He wasn’t intending to hurt her. We just have that context given what we know. As heartbreaking as it is it worse than the alternative? I don’t really know...

Phoenix Dawn

Omg, I laughed so hard when you said Riley’s wife probably died 10 mins after the show, on the road. Lmao!

Yesmydog

Trying for a happier comment for this painful episode - when Buffy is playing charades to stall for time, you can hear someone yell "Deathwok Clan!" when she mimes horns on her head. (I've known about that piece of trivia for a while but this was the first rewatch where I was actually able to hear it!)

Oooh we're getting close can't wait! Also like the eyeliner
